Fair>
It’s not fair. You laugh as those words float past your life, weaving in and out of your dreams, making a mockery of themselves and everything else, as they pop up uninvited into spinning thoughts and drifting hopes. Fair isn’t a concept that truly exists. If there was such a thing as fair you wouldn’t have to sit back and watch as everything you ever hoped for gets stripped away one fading dream at a time. If fair was anything more than an empty sentiment you wouldn’t have to lose the thing that you love most in this sorry life you’re forced to stumble through, after everything you’ve done to keep it, to make sure everyone was happy, to make sure you had done everything you could to make sure everything was a good as you could make it. When your every dream consists of making someone you care about happy, and you put every effort into that dream, and then you have to sit back and watch while they walk out of your life, because if you don’t let yourself be hurt, and let them leave you’ll hurt them instead, and you would rather die than ever see that happen, you have to start wondering what fair means. So you let those empty words drift around you and fill the space that has been left in your heart by thoughtless words and careless actions that leave you feeling like a toy tossed aside in favour of something new and shiny. After all the love you gave you would think you would get some in return. But love isn’t a choice. One can’t choose to love something they don’t. That isn’t a choice. Love isn’t a choice. But if life were “fair” it wouldn’t have to be.
