Nothing is perfect, and you have to figure out what negative aspects you're willing to accept. This goes for relationships, jobs, and numerous other situations. I've given this advice to many people over the years. But, being typical, I don't always listen to my own advice.

Winter's coming, and I'm not looking forward to it. The thought of snow, ice, and cold is making me shiver. I know, a lot of you are thinking that you've heard me whine so much about New York winters, that I should quit whining and do something about it. I tell myself the same thing. But, if I can't whine in my own journal, where else can I whine?

Anyhow, I should focus on what is good about upstate New York weather. One thing is the color changes in the fall. Right now, the trees are at peak or past peak. With all the leaves on the ground, I'm surprised there are still so many on the trees. I dread winter as much as John dreads summer, so I guess it evens itself out.

I purchased a handcrafted greeting card a few weeks ago from a friend's online store, called Pinetree Designs. I was so pleased with my purchase, that I told Stefani that I was going to mention it in my journal. I finally uploaded the pictures of the card so I can show everyone.

The card arrived in a padded envelope that cost almost $1.00 in postage to send. Inside the padded envelope, the card was in a plastic protective envelope. (A card condom, if you you know what I mean ;) .... Yes, I have a warped sense of humor!) On the plastic envelope was a little sticker that says, "blank inside". I was impressed with all this extra care in packaging. I thought, "Jeez, Stef, you know it's only me, you don't need to do all this extra stuff". I used to order cards from Stefani at my former place of employment, and was used to having the card just delivered to my former desk.

Speaking of former work, I got together for lunch yesterday with some former friends, (I guess they would still be friends if I had lunch with them...), I mean former co-workers. We met at Alexanders in Fairport. Alexander's is a relatively new restaurant that serves American food. The service was good and the waitress went out of her way setting up a table for 5. Below is a picture of Terry and Nick, who still work at WNYCS. ( I see from linking there that they haven't updated their webpage since 2000... And I thought I was bad at updating regularly!!!)

The next picture is of Barb, who joined me in employment the day after I did. She used to work in accounts payable, so, if anyone local hears of a full-time job opening in that field, please let me know.

We had fun talking about babies ( I passed around pictures of MacKenzie), potty-training (Nick's one-year-old is well on her way to no diapers!), Mary-Kay (Terry is a MaryKay representative), and the "joys" of unemployment.

Amy was also going to join us, but she cancelled when she heard that her parents-in-law's home had been destroyed in the California wildfires. They were evacuated in time, but they lost everything. Amy, you may recall, used to work with us and had a baby in March. She ended up leaving the company to stay home with her children. In light of everything that is going on with the company, that was a smarter move than anyone thought at that time.

Terry and Nick only had an hour and had to leave. Barb and I stuck around for more coffee, just because we could. :) Yes, that is a picture of Terry and I, and I have the goofy expression on my face. What can I say? I also noticed, once I saw the picture, that my white bra showed through my grey sweater. (AAAAAAHHHHH!) Too late to do anything about now, though!

After coffee, Barb and I decided to go visit the gift shop in Fairport where Stefani sells her stuff. The store is open 6 days a week, but we discovered it was closed on Monday. I guess we can go there some other time.

Thanks for reading!
Ann Marie
