Tips for Performances |
Get ready the night before |
If you get ready the night before the big performance or competition you will have less things to do the next day. This way you know you already have everything you need, so you can get a good night's rest. You won't have to stay up until 3:00 in the morning thinking about what you have to pack. If you can't get ready the night before make a list of all the things you need to have and pack it the next day. |
Get a good night's rest |
If you get a good night's rest and go to bed early the day before the performance or competition it is more likely you will do better. You will be rested and ready to go!! |
Eat well |
Eat a really good, balanced, nutrious meal for breakfast like orange juice or milk with some eggs, waffles, pancakes or a yogurt (It does not have to be that heavy). Whatever you like. If you have the problem of not being that hungry on a performance day you should just try to eat something even if it is just a yogurt. Drink plenty of drinks (preferably water) to keep from getting dehydrated, and bring a light snack with you to eat backstage and a bottle of water. |
Get there early |
You should try to get there about an hour early so you can warm-up and practice anything you feel needs to be practiced in one of your dances. You should also get there early to be ready on time and go over all your dances in your mind. |
And most of all RELAX and have fun remember you are doing the one thing that you love and that is to dance. |

Do some stuff at home |
Take some stress off of yourself by doing some things while you are at home. For example, you can put your hair up before you go, you can do some of your make-up before you go; some foundation or something, you can eat and and do anything else you feel you need to do before you get to the place you are performing at. It saves you time and relieves some of your stress so you can concentrate on your dance(s). |
Come prepared |
Make sure that you come prepared. Bring an extra pair of pointe shoes if you feel you need to just in case your old ones don't work for you. Bring stuff that you feel you would like to have on you just in case of an emergency. |
Make-up |
You want to make sure that your stage make-up is darker than your street make-up. When you get on stage you must have your make-up dark enough so the lights don't wash out your face. Apply a foundation that is 2 or 3 shades darker than your regular foundation. Try brown eye shadows. Don't ever use blue unless you are told to because it may cause you to look cross-eyed. Try a dark burgandy lipstick and use a rose/pink color for your cheeks. For your mascara, use a black waterproof formula if you can. Make sure you also use a black eyeliner. |
