ABOUT US

Balara High School came into existence in the school year 1975-1976. It was then an annex of Flora Ylagan High School. In its first year of operation, there were only two classrooms used. One room for the first year and another room for the second year at the Old Balara Elementary School along Katipunan road. Only 15 students were enrolled in the second year and 45 first year students were enrolled during this school year. There were only two teachers then, namely Miss Elvessa Noche and Mrs. Matrona Reyes. Mr. William Barcena served as the officer-in-charge. There was an increase in number of students during the next school year 1976-1977. Hence, the Supt. decided to transfer the School of Balara Elementary School. The administrator gives way and evocated the two storey building which was used to house the grade six pupils. The number of teachers, (originally 2) became 13. Among the teachers who were assigned during this school year were: Mrs. Ma. Luisa Robles, Ms. Ines Barrera, Mrs. Mauricia Negre, Mr. Rex Aragon, Mr. Robert Daquioag, Mrs. Susan Lascano, Ms. Felicitas Jemenez White, Mr. Digan, Mrs. Bergonia, Mr. Rivera and Mrs. Adelfa Mena. The two pioneer teachers continue their services. Mrs. Celia dela Cruz was the head-teacher-in-charge. Meanwhile, the name of the school was change Quezon City High School Annex was its new then. There were two sections in third year, two sections in second tear and three sections in first year. As the years go by, student populations continue to increase. Likewise, the number of teachers also grew. New teachers were added in the school year 1977-1978. They were: Ms. Michael, Ms. Parong, Ms. Abaldonada, Ms. Abuda, Mrs. Tablante, Mr. Victorino, Mr. Nicolasora, Mrs. Dela Cruz, Mr. Francisco, Ms. Bernardino and Ms. Arcillas. The head-teacher-in-charge was Mrs. Luz de Guzman. Ms. Sumaoang came into the school year 1978-1979, while Mrs. Bandal and Ms. Tariman came into the school year 1979-1980. It was during the school year that the school gained its independence together with the three other schools annex in the division. A change in administration of the school took place. Mrs. Amelia Castelltort headed the faculty. New teachers were assigned then. They were: Mrs. Citor, Ms. Aquino, Mrs. Aribon, Mr. Aribon Mr. Floresca, Mrs. Sunalabi, Mrs. Casingal, Ms. Annang, Mrs. Rabago, Mrs. Estrellado, Mrs. Blas and Mr. Torres. Ms. Ramos came during the shool year 1983-1984, it was also then when Balara High School had an increasing population so the administration opened Balara High School Annex. Meanwhile, Mrs. Purificacion M. Cruz replaced Mrs. Castelltort in the school year 1984-1985. New comer teachers were: Mrs. Hernandez, Mrs. Aklan, Ms. Cerdena, and Mrs. Caburian. It was during the term of Mrs. Cruz when the six classroom two storey building was constructed. Since its operation, the school has a perennial problem in congestion because of its continuous growth in population. The previous administrations tried their best to solve this problem but this could not be realized due to the fact that there is no available lot for another building construction. We hope and pray that the MWSS will give us a school site in one of its vacant lots in the vicinity.

HISTORY

The Balara High School stands as a mute testimony of ones great faith in God and trust to fellowmen. The people behind it have the love for mankind and surely, can rise to height in spite of tremendous factors that surrounds it. In 1975-1976, Balara High School came into existence. It was an annex of Flora Ylagan High School. This school became a landmark in the lives of the people who were and are being benefited directly or indirectly by its educational output. There was a great increased in the number of enrollees every year thats why, inspired by massive youths clamor and thirst for higher education, all those who were assigned Teachers-in-charge/ Principals in this school worked for its independence, expansion, and more teachers too. Luckily, the Quezon City Superintendent accede on this former two classrooms and was made into thirteen rooms and presently an extension of another two buildings. Now, Balara High School has a total population of 2,300 . It has its perennial problem which is congestion mainly because of its tremendous growth in population. Everyone in this school, students, parents, and teachers alike are all keeping their fingers cross in the light of the hope that another site could be possibly allocated to us for the benefits of the studentry and of the teaching- learning process.
