A great appointment for Aidan and Christian. Their doctor was very impressed with their growth, development and physical abilities. He said their ability to crawl and roll into a seated position is characteristic of a 9 month old. He immediately instructed us to lower the mattress in their cribs. They proved their abilities...as Christian rolled around the table and tried to eat the paper he was laying on...and Aidan kicked and laughed hysterically as he was being examined. We mentioned their lack of sleeping through the night. The Dr. told us it is now time for tough love and we should let them cry until they fall back to sleep. At this point they should be able to sleep 10 hours straight - IMAGINE! The Dr told us that we are doing a great job introducing solid foods and he's happy the boys are enjoying it. He also wrote us prescriptions for floride drops. Then came the tough part...the nurse came in with EIGHT needles - 4 for each. Three shots were boosters for previous vaccinations and one was the first part of their flu shot. We have to return in a month for a 'nurse visit' for their second flu shot installment. Needless to say, they screamed bloody murder...but quickly recovered and saved their energy for a marathon of screaming through the night. We survived the first night of tough love :) |
This was a quick visit with just the nurse for Aidan & Christian's second dose of the flu vaccine. Hopefully, we will have a flu free winter! |
We had another great appointment. Aidan and Christian are continuing to do wonderfully. Their Dr. was very impressed that they have already taken their first steps. He even adjusted the time because they were born 5 weeks early so he said technically they started walking at 8 months! He said that we can start teaching them how to drink from a cup so that when they are a year old we can toss the bottles! Also that we can try any foods with them with the exception of egg whites & nuts. They got out of getting any shots today - but they did get a finger prick to test for lead, iron and their hemoglobin. We don't have to go back until just after their first birthday!!! |

The doctor was once again impressed with the growth and development of the boys. Aidan continues on his established growth curve, while Christian is even gaining ground on his (meaning his rate of growth is increasing). He gave us the OK to stop the formula and introduce whole milk - woo hoo! He also gave us the OK to introduce any and all foods gradually. This includes the previously restricted egg whites, nuts, etc. Aidan and Christian did not escape without the needles during this visit. They each got three in their little arms. The first was a test for TB, the second a vaccination for hepatitis and the third for chicken pox. We have to go back to the office in 2 days for the nurse to check the TB injection for exposure. But after that we don't go back until they are 15 months old (when they are both big brothers!) Although the doctor suggests we bring the new baby to its appointments by itself, at least in the beginning. |
June 28th 2005 15 month Appointment |
Aidan weight: 23 lbs length: 31 inches |
Christian weight: 20lbs 14 ozs length: 31 1/2 inches |
A somewhat crazy appointment because we had both boys, Kaia, mom, grandma and grandpa in the room. But everyone behaved themselves and we were given a clean bill of health for everyone. The Dr. was happy with the boys' physical ability and their communication skills. And very happy with their growth. We asked him if they are ready for "big boy beds" since they are both climbing out of their cribs. He said they really are too young and we should try to hold out until they are 2 years old. Once again we did not escape with out needles. They each got 2 shots...one for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and their final ADPT shot. We don't have to go back until 18 months. |
September 8th 2005 18 month Appointment |
Aidan weight: 25 lbs 8 ozs length: 32 1/2 inches |
Christian weight: 22 lbs length: 32 3/4 inchs |
All went well at their 18 month appointment. They are starting to realize where they are as soon as they enter the waiting area. Both were a bit nervous, but it was Christian who got upset as soon as he was put on the scale. They both continue to grow wonderfully and the Dr said all was well and gave them both "high fives". They didn't like it, but they received their final boosters for their vaccinations and don't have to see the Dr again until they are two! However, we do have to see the nurse in the fall for their flu shots :( |
October 19th, 2005 Flu Shots |
A quick nurse appointment for flu shots. A few tears but quickly dried up when the nurses gave out cookies and stickers! |
