ENZYME KINETICS
SPREADSHEET AND GRAPHS
Spreadsheets are important tools in analysing experimental
data. The data can be inserted on a spreadsheet and calculations can be
performed, as well as different types of graphical representation of the
data can be generated(1).
The following data(Table 1) was obtained from an experiment
involving the reaction of the enzyme hexokinase and fructose. The data
for the concentration of the substrate [S] and reaction rate(V),were
inserted in a spreadsheet, and the other values were determined using microsoft
excel software.

Fig.1, below shows how
the velocity(V) varies with the substrate concentration([S].

A number of different methods can also
be used to graphically represent enzyme kinetic data.For example Fig.2
shows the Eadie-Hofstee method ( V against V/[S]) .

Fig. 3 below shows the Lineweaver-Burk(1/V
against 1/[S]) method of grahical representation.
