Helga Sandeen
b. 04/22/1901 - d. 10/021/1988
Helga was not married.
Helga and her sister were both teachers, having graduated
from the State Teacher's College in Bemidji, Minnesota. They
both held teaching positions in Minnesota and in the '50s
and '60s they were grammar school teachers in Gary, Indiana.
They were both recognized as excellent teachers.
For a short time Helga was a secretary at the Vancouver
Fundamental School in Vancouver, British Columbia. Viola was
once a governess for well-to-do families in Chicago, among
them "Juke Box" Seaburg's family and President Kennedy's
sister, Eunice Shriver's children.
For many years Helga and Viola had a summer home in
Crosby, Minnesota, they also lived with their brother
Evald's family in Bemidji. After their retirement they had
an apartment in Brainerd. The last few years they lived in
their brother Bill's home in Crosby and in Buffalo Hills
Nursing Home in Brainerd. They are both buried in Evergreen
Memorial Gardens in Brainerd.
Helga and Viola visited Sweden in 1966, where they met
with their cousins, Elsa Granefelt in Stockholm and Valter
Johansson in Goteborg, also several of their relatives in
Grytnds and Hedemora, Dalarna. They spoke an old-fashioned
Swedish which their relatives found both interesting and
amusing. In 1975 they visited Israel together with their
niece Beulah Burns.
