After we got off the ferry, we took a stroll to try and locate the subway. We couldn't seem to find it easily, so we asked a police officer for directions. He had a wonderful accent, and his name tag said "Lilley". With his help we were able to locate the subway. We proceeded to China town and then Little Italy. I liked Chinatown. It was my kind of shopping. Not upscale, but neat, market-type stuff where you didn't have to pay the price tag price. Little Italy was fabulous. The 4 of us were stopped by two elderly women who inquired where we were from and then proceeded to tell us how much they love Canada. They gave us tips about things to see in NY- like the Frick Museum and the church near ground 0. Unfortunately, our time being limited, we didn't make it to those places, however should I be in NY again, I will plan to visit. At the end of our little visit, they thanked us for coming. We ate at a place called "Positano" where the portions were generous, the spicy pasta was wonderful, and the price was "un-New York" like... The buildings and fire hydrants had some of the Italian colours... And I couldn't leave little Italy without some Gelato! I tried a new flavour, and it was fabulous... I was sad to leave the area, but it was time to proceed on through Soho. Once again we spent time going through the shops before subwaying back in time for our Phantom of the Opera show. Emily did encounter one interesting character in Soho, as she was waiting outside the store. When I came out, he told me that in all the borrows (don't know how to spell the word) of NY, there would be no one comparable to her. Emily commented that if you stay anywhere long enough, you will make friends.
It was an amazing day... Phantom to top off the day of strolling through neighbourhoods (my favourite way to see a city...) Definitely my highlight day of the trip.
