Kuna Yale School Uniforms

In keeping with what has become an annual tradition, our Thanksgiving Dinner 2007 provided the opportunity for Association members to make donations to a good cause.  This year we collected school supplies for the elementary school in Kuna Yala, located on the island of Achutupu.
Members' also responded with generous donations by cheque.  These will help provide required uniforms and shoes, unaffordable for parents of many students who go barefoot.   Half the population on the island is under the age of twelve.  Our Canadian Ambassador has promised to join us at the presentation to students and staff in Achutupu,
when school resumes this March.

English Language Scholarships
Four Panamanian teachers of English as a Second Language have been
selected by the Ministry of Education as potential candidates for our
English Language Scholarships supported by ScotiaBank.  After evaluating professional qualifications, history and essays provided by the teachers, a Board Committee will select the two teachers who will benefit in 2008 from two semesters in the English Language Program of Florida State University in Panama, courtesy of the University and Scotiabank.

The Canadian Panama Association funds a number of community projects in Panama through different fund-raising activities held throughout the year. Two of those projects are: the purchase of school uniforms for students of the Kuna Yale elementary school on the island of Achutupu and the awarding of education scholarships to Panamanian students.
