| 26.05.2001 Little known fact - Egyptians sleep less than anybody else, not olny during Ramadan. Yesterday the television guy came round to repair my box at 10.30pm. Hello? Left again, after realising, that he could not fix it and came back at midnight (!) with a replacement. Very nice of him, but considering the time of day I did not really give a toss.... And another bit of wisdom, aquired after 1 year in this country: They come to work to socialise. What else could you possibly be doing during the day, except catching up on the sleep you lost during the night, while being out and smoking shisha? Ok, ok, sorry, I had one of those annoying days with excessive use of foul language. How on earth do they keep their country running like that? The jury is still out on the island - will decide in Athens. Can't wait to hit civilisation, will go shopping for books, DVD's and clothes right away - Andrew will arrive a couple of hours after me.... Carpe Diem! 21.05.2001 Still trying to make up our minds about the island..... 15.05.2001 There I was last Saturday, planning to go out exploring San Stefano and to do some major shopping. And what happens? A flipping sandstorm! How can there be a sandstorm, when you are surrounded by high rises, 5 minutes away from the sea? Shouldn't these things stay in the desert, where they belong? Anyway, at some point in the afternoon I decided to stick my head around the corner of the house on my backside balcony, to be greated by some orange, prickly stuff. And after some sneezing, wheezing and rubbing of eyeballs decided to stay in for the remainder of the day.... Bloody unfair! Started planning my summer holiday - at the moment the plan is to meet up with a friend in Greece. We are currenlty trying to decide, which island..... 10.05.2001 I finally went and bought a headset. The usual inane fiddling behind the computer ensued, with trying out all the holes those thingies fit into.... Hit the right ones eventually and spent an annoying hour, trying to figure out, why the damn system could not hear me, and finally - success - I made my first international phone call via the internet. Hurray! And, golly, it's cheap! Gonna be on that thing all the time now...... Oh, by the way - another 2-day-weekend has come around. I am totally over the moon with the prospect of being a couch potatoe for 2 full days. Laziness, here I come..... 01.05.2001 The first of May, and I was at work, while the rest of the world had the day off, no comment! |
