Commandments
God gave The Commandments (moral commands) to Moses on Mount Sanai (Ex.20:1-21). Jesus acknowledged this moral code in his dialogue with the young man (Matt 19:16-19). He unfolded all the demands of the Commandments and when someone asked him "which Commandment in the law is the greatest?" Jesus replied:"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets.
God’s Ten Commandments
Original sin: the sin by which the first human being disobeyed the commandment of God, choosing to follow his own will rather than God's will. As a consequence they lost the grace of original holiness, and became subject to the law of death; sin became universally present in the world. Besides the personal sin of Adam and Eve, original sin describes the fallen state of human nature which affects every person, except Christ and Mary, born into the world, and from which Christ, the "New Adam," came to redeem us. To try to understand what sin is, one must first recognize the profound relation of man to God, for only in this relationship is the evil of sin unmasked in its true identity as humanity’s rejection of God and opposition to him.
Original Sin
Sin is an offense against God as well as a fault against reason, truth and right conscience. Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed or omission contrary to the law of God. In judging the gravity of sin, we distinguish between mortal and venial sin. For a sin to be mortal: three things must be present: serious matter, sufficient reflection and full consent of the will . This is an effort to bring forth a greater understanding of the commandments. What is commanded and what is forbidden  by each commandment will be brought forth for our reflection. As an aid to an examination of conscience, for devotional confession, we might want to reflect on just one commandment.
