| The Sorrowful Mysteries
 The Agony in the Garden - the wound of rejection - Meditation: Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemani. He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer. "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass me by." The Scourging at the Pilar - the wound of misunderstanding - Meditation: The people said, "Let his blood be upon us and upon our children." At that, he released Barabbas to them. Jesus, however, he had scourged. The Crowning with Thorns - the wound of ingratitude - Meditation: They stripped off his clothes and wrapped him in a scarlet cloak. Weaving a crown of thorns, they fixed it on his head and began to mock him. The Carrying of the Cross - the wound of failure - Meditation: Jesus was led away, and carry the cross by himself, went out to what is called the Place of the Skull. There they crucified me. (On Calvary) The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus - the wound of abandonment - Meditation: The curtain in the sanctuary was torn in two, Jesus uttered a loud cry and said, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." After this he expired. The Glorious Mysteries The Resurrection of Our Lord - the glory of faith - Meditation: The angel spoke, "Do not be frightened. I know you are looking for Jesus the crucified, but he is not here. He has been raised, exactly as he promised." The Ascension of Jesus into Heaven - the glory of hope - Meditation: He then led them out near Bethany, and with hands upraised, blessed them. As he blessed, and left them, and was taken up to heaven. The Decent of the Holy Spirit - the glory of love and renewal - Meditation: Tongues as of fire appeared which parted and came to rest on each of them. All were filled with the Holy Spirit. The Assumption of Mary into Heaven - the glory of union - Meditation: May you be blessed, my daughter, by God most high, beyond all women on earth; and may the Lord God be blessed, the creator of heaven and earth. The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth - the glory of humility and the final victory - Meditation: A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars. The Luminous Mysteries (said on thursdays) The Baptism of Christ - "And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behols, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased' (Mt. 3:16-17). The Wedding at Cana - "This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him' (John 2:11). Preaching of Christ on the Kingdom, Conversion, and Reconciliation - "Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the Gospel" (Mk 1:14-15). The Transfiguration - "And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him" (Mt. 17:1-3 The Last Supper and the Institution of the Eucharist - "Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to his disciples and said, 'Take, eat; this is my body.' And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, 'Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins'" (Mt.26:26-28)  |
