Matrimony is a covenant or partnership of life between a man and a woman, which is ordered to the well-being of the spouses and to the procreation and upbringing of children. When validly contracted between two baptized people, marriage is a Sacrament called Matrimony.
Matrimony
Christ added to the holiness of marriage an even deeper meaning and a higher beauty. He referred to the love of marriage to describe his own love for the Church.
Exhortation before Marriage
The marriage of those who are baptized is more than an ordinary marriage contract, much more than an exchange of promises. The baptized find their vows blessed by God, and in the Sacrament of their union, they discover the grace to support their marriage pledge and the special spiritual help they will need for holiness in their state of life.
