Matthew Wade Pogue, my nephew, and Tammie were close growing up.  They were December babies and only a week apart in their births.  Matt was the oldest.  He was a mild and gentle child--always much more laid back than my hyper and volatile Tammie Raye!  Matt spent many hours at our home--always a welcome and much loved part of our family.   Matthew took his own life in July, 1996.  He was only 24 at the time.  We all still grieve for Matt.  My brother and sister-in-law, Randy & Debbie Pogue, had asked  me to write & read a poem for him at his funeral.  In September of 2003, my brother, Randy lost his beloved wife, Debbie.  I'm adding a poem dedicated to her in a few days.
Matt's poem can also be reached through the "Poems" link.

Betty Louise Townsley and James Leonard Pogue, Jr. had been "made" for each other!  He was 24 and she was barely 16 when they had married in October of 1946.   They celebrated their 30th anniversary in October 23, 1976--along with the birth of our Stephanie! Dad had told us that Stephanie was the best anniversary present he and Mom ever had!  Five months later, in February of 1977, Dad had died of cancer.  Mom never remarried and in October of 1988, she went on to be with the Lord & Dad.   I wrote a poem for her as part of my grieving and as a memorial to her, too.
God gave me the strength to read it at her funeral.
That poem can be reached through the "Poems" link.

Mom loved to sing and we all certainly loved to hear her sing, too.  She'd sing as she cooked and cleaned and just about any other time, as well.  As a child, I was often reassured and comforted by the melodious sound of her voice.  She came from a family that sang gospel and country songs almost every time they got together.  If you have ever seen "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and listened to the old songs in that movie, you'll get some idea of just how my mom and her siblings sounded.

Dedication to my family...
Of course, here, I have to mention my own family!
There's John Douglas, SR.  We've been married for 35 years  since February 6.  Whew!  No wonder he's gray!!  And, then, there's our "babies"--Stephanie in the front,
James, John, and Tammie.  They just grew up too fast!!!
