As the last but most important event of the season, the Cricket Section Annual General Meeting (AGM) is always full of drama. Controversies (Grocer: I couldn't have dropped 5 catches...), heated discussions (should Doug be captain... again?), and award presentations (best batsman of the year? Natch!) are just a few of the many highlights as the evening goes on... Based on previous experiences, I called Ludwig Lee (Club Manager) on Friday and reminded him again to have all the Carlsbergs that were currently in stock at the club COLD. Drinks started at 7 with Wino arriving in overdressed fashion. Not so surprise of the night was the appearance of the Lumbersaurus, who except for not playing in any of the matches this season seemed haven't left Hong Kong at all. The REAL surprise of the night was the entrance of Andy "I am 40 and happily unemployed" Smith. One had the feeling that we will see more of him next season. |

Aside from Stead who was a touch late busy blowing balloons for Rachel Eames, 18 others witnessed the first presentation of the night ¡V Club tie for all first year players: Nasir Mahmood (batting average 240.00 thank you very much), Neil McDonald (yet to drop a catch thank you very much), Grant Docherty (broken finger thank you very much) and Gary Wines (Debutante of the Year thank you very much, and more time riding the boundary next season). |
This year we also tried a more interactive approach with the people in attendance will vote for 3 additional awards. They are: |

Grocer ordered his usual steak and chips while his mate and his mate's mate enjoyed vegetable curry. Others settled with the more tradition Chinese cuisine and in no time we were having the red bean soup ¡V the cue for the show to begin! Alice proved once again she was not only just good at handling Doug but also brilliant in mastering the Powerpoint as her presentation reviewed the finer points of our campaign. (League season statistics available here) |
Nominees for "Outstanding" achievement in batting: (Winner in GREEN) Mark Eames ¡V being the only batsman in the team, made only 4 centuries in 13 innings (1 in first 9). Doug Jones ¡V being the skipper and senior player, at 7 for 62, gave the burden of scoring and securing maximum batting points to debutante Nasir in the game v Lamma, scoring only 35 in a 148-run partnership. George Lamplough ¡V made his first ever run for C.C.C. v Islanders, smacking Hong Kong Sixes representative Najeeb all over the park. Rodney Miles ¡V being the batsman of his class and need not to wear a helmet while batting, wore one when playing the slow medium of Butt Hussain v HKU. |
