The use of color in a display

2.  Choose a color that fits in the setting it is displayed.  What this means is choose a color that matches the room.  When the background colors clash with the setting of a room, the first reaction of people is a negative one.

Remember that some colors will not be as popular in the future.  People likes for specific colors will remain the same.  For that reason the colors used in your house will probably always match your frame.  The one question to ask yourself is,  Will my creations still be displayed in 20, 30, 40, or 50 years when they are passed on to children or other collectors?

This is the second reason I always use black and white.  No matter where it is being displayed it will always match the room.

3.  Using more than one color in a display can have several advantages and disadvantages.  First it gives you the ability to put an artifact on a color that best brings it out.  Another advantage is you may use the colors as a design if that is the type of display you are trying to create.

Be careful when using multiple colors to find ones that compliment each other and do not clash.  If the colors clash then the first reaction to a person seeing the display will be a negative on.

As was mentioned in the design section there are sometimes you would mot want to detract attention away from a specific artifact.  In these cases a solid background should be used.

Color is the greatest way to bring out the beauty in a display.  As I said earlier stated before everyone has their preferences. But, if the color matches the room and the colors are pleasing to the eye then just because you did not use that collectors color will not detract from the overall beauty of the display and artifacts.

When it comes to using color in a display, the choose is largely the preference of the creator.    I have seen a wide spectrum of colors used in varying shades.  Color is also the one thing that collectors will say could be better, "Their collection is great, only it would be better if they put in on [my color] instead of that".

I am the same as every other collector.  My colors are black and white.  I love them and use them almost exclusively.  These are my biases and I know that.

Setting all the preferences aside, there are a few things that should be thought of when choosing a color.

1.  When choosing a color decide on one that will match and bring out the detail in the artifacts.  If you are displaying several artifacts which are black, then a black background will hide them. I have talked with people who use green for this reason.

One other advantage to both green and yellow psychologically these are the colors that catch the eye the fastest.  But, they are also the colors that hold peoples attention the shortest.  Blue is the color that holds attention the longest.
