Setting: USS ANUBIS, Sickbay
Stardate: 60326.1100
Lea stood between the two biobeds examining the results of her scans and tests. At first the CMO imagined that the warriors had endured a great deal of problems on SURIAL III. The amount of musclular lesions made it clear that they had gone through some severe physical hardships. What puzzled Lea the most though was that these injuries appeared to be very recent.
"When you boys get going on a workout, you don't hold back," Lea said. It had taken her a few moments to put two and two together. Having been training in with the Marines Lea could imagine that they had wanted to show off.
"If you are not going to give 100% of what you have to something you are doing, then why do it at all?" Uxtar asked. Lea glanced up from her PADD expecting to see a smile on the Hirogen's face. Instead the CMO saw an expression of complete seriousness. Looking at Nico Lea saw the same look making her understand that this was 'the way of things'.
"Just accept it for what it is Doctor," captain Arlington said from a few beds down. "That is why I wanted them on my ship. When I had a ship that is. Forcing them to get a few days of R&R is not going to hurt them but it won't last. Maybe I should speak with your captain and see what we could arrange."
"I am sure that we could put these colossal towers of muscles to good use somewhere on this ship," Lea replied. As much as a joke as she had meant it to be, the CMO could actually see Uxtar and Nico fitting well on the ANUBIS. Lea sighed as she thought of the vacancy created by the loss of their ILO and that no one would ever be able to replace Enaii.
"We are not going anywhere other than back with you, sir," Nico said. Uxtar had been ready to say the exact same thing by the Nausicaan had beaten him to the punch.
"Relax boys," captain Arlington said as he tried to sit up. The pain that shot through him body made him wince in agony and quickly reconsider. "Looks like I might not be going anywhere anytime soon."
"Do not worry about us sir, we will be there for you when you are feeling well enough to return to duty," Uxtar said. Lea could not help but be impressed by the loyalty displayed by the two men. It was easy to see that Uxtar and Nico respected their CO and that it pained them to see him as he was.
"All right you two," Lea said, getting the two warrior's attention. "Everything checks out as it should, so how about you two go play in a holodeck or something. This will give time for your illustrious captain to get the rest he needs."
Uxtar and Nico looked at each other for a few seconds. As different as they were the Nausicaan and Hirogen seemed to be able to share thoughts. That possibility became even more plausible when the two of them jumped off their beds at the same time and grinned. "Lunch!"
With the two warriors gone from sickbay the CMO turned her attention back to the MERCURY's CO. Lea had kept the true extent of the man's injuries from the general public. The last thing Lea had needed was to fight off the senior staff of the MERCURY who would have wanted to be by their CO's side.
"Doc," Jonnathen said in a laboured voice. "I am serious. Nico and Uxtar are only Ensigns and I do not want them bounced around by Starfleet Command. Although they are Officers they need a special crew to see them for who they are. They are capable and devoted officers who would not hesitate to give their lives for their friends. I have not seen much of your ship and crew, but I have seen enough to know that they would be welcomed here. Please, I must speak with your CO, before it is too late."
Lea nodded. The CMO could imagine that Sabrina had not been in the mood for such a talk. Losing a member of the crew was hard enough, but losing a wife and mother of your child had to be devastating. Despite this though Sabrina would have to be here and speak to Jonnathen about Uxtar and Nico. And looking at the last set of readings Lea knew that this would have to take place rapidly.
As Lea left Sickbay she drew a mental list of things to do. After speaking to Sabrina the CMO had planned on dropping in on the CEO. Being locked away in his quarters had to be hard enough for him. So Lea hoped that he would welcome her visit under the pretence of making sure that he was all right. At least physically. After all it was the CMO's responsibility to insure such things.
