Setting: USS HATHOR, Bridge

As the Chief Science Officer of the USS HATHOR, the Shillian woman had made it her task to insure that the cause of the inertial dampening field failure had not been external in any way. Although there had been very few known phenomenon that could be accountable for such a problem the scientist had begun a thorough search of the area of space they had travelled through just in case they had encountered one of these rare occurrences.

Thanks to the order given by Captain Serenna to drop out of warp speed, the task of the Shillian scientist had been made much easier permitting the sensors to carefully search the section of the cosmos where the incident had happened. Despite the intensity of the investigation the Chief Science Officer had failed to discover any possible links between any natural spatial phenomenon and what had happened on the USS HATHOR.

"How is the ship doing?" The Commanding Officer asked of the Chief of Operations who quickly looked down at his instruments before giving the captain his report.

"No change," Ensign Kea said, "all of the systems are coming across as working within specified parameters. Whatever caused the power surge in the inertial dampening system is either gone or it does not register on our instruments.

"According to the external sensors the HATHOR did not traverse a region of space that could be accountable for what happened," the Shillian scientist said adding her report to that of the Chief of Operations. "Based on the available information, we have to go on the assumption that the cause was internal and may be a design flaw that was overlooked during the creation of this type of starship. I mean, there are so many different integrated systems onboard this ship that I am amazed that they function as well as they do with each other, but then again it could have been a simple engineering miss-calibration which could be eliminated within an hour or maybe even less."

"Until we can pinpoint the cause of what happened, I think it would be wise to maintain our current speed," Lieutenant Commander Serenna said, leaning back into her chair and appearing not at all pleased with the way *her* mission had started out.

"At our current speed and heading we will reach the KARRABY CLUSTER in," Ensign Uxtar said, stopping for a brief moment as he confirmed the numbers that had appeared on his flight control station. "Two point six *months*."

"Well I do not know about the rest of you," the Nausicaan Chief of Security grinned, "but that is a lot longer than what I had planned for this little *shakedown* cruise."

"I am certain that the engineering staff will be able to isolate and rectify whatever the problem was," the Commanding Officer said, shooting a rapid glare in the direction of the Tactical Officer. "Talking of which, Lieutenant Commander Maya, if your scans are completed I would like for you to go down to Sickbay and check on our injured crew member."

The Shillian scientist had been on the verge of asking as to why she, the Chief Science Officer, would need to do this task but the woman quickly realised that the job requested of her had fallen within the jurisdiction of her other role onboard the USS HATHOR, that of Executive Officer. With a nod of her head the scientist left her post on the bridge and exited setting her sights on Deck 2 and Sickbay.

Setting: USS HATHOR, Sickbay

The moment the Shillian scientist had stepped into Sickbay she immediately felt the restrictive size of the room the Chief Medical Officer had been complaining so much about. The sickbay of the HATHOR had indeed been designed to be small and extremely efficient with space, but obviously the designers had failed to take into account the size and bulk of people such as the Oltharian engineer.

"If you are here to get my report on Elan, I will give it to you, but under one condition," Doctor Summers said, glaring at the Shillian woman standing in the still opened doorway. The Executive Officer nodded her agreement and waited to see what condition or restriction the Chief Medical Officer would impose. "Stay exactly where you are!"

"Why?" The Shillian woman asked while looking at the Oltharian who could barely fit on the smaller sized-biobed. "Is Lieutenant Fairborn suffering for some sort of contagious illness?"

The Chief Medical Officer glared at the scientist as if to say that she should have figured it all out the moment the Shillian had walked in. "Not unless *size* has somehow become transmittable. With all due respect Commander, have you seen the size of my Sickbay, and with all respect to Elan, have you seen *his* size."

The Oltharian engineer remained silent while lying on the small bed, appearing not at all willing to counter anything that the *Healer* might and would say.

"I just came down to check up on Elan," the Executive Officer said. "Captain Serenna sent me down as I suspect she wants to have a general idea as to when our Chief Engineering Officer will be able to return to his post. Since the external sensors were unable to discover an external cause for what happened with the inertial dampening field generator, everything points to an internal problem and I suspect that our Commanding Officer does not want us to limp back home if the problem can be identified and resolved."

"Elan is fine!" Lieutenant Summers snapped, not wanting to have the Shillian go on for any longer than she had to. "I would have been able to fix his broken Tibia by now had we been on the ANUBIS, but thanks to the limited amount of space I have to work in, it will take me a couple more minutes. Lieutenant Fairborn will be able to return to full active duty within the next half hour," the Chief Medical Officer said, looking at the scientist with fire in her eyes. "That is of course if I can get back to doing *my* job!"

Not wanting to further upset Doctor Summers, the Shillian woman took a step back and allowed the door to sickbay to close in front of her, leaving the Oltharian in the *tender* care of the Chief Medical Officer of the USS HATHOR.
