Setting: USS HATHOR, Bridge

The flight simulation was going along better than hoped. Derek had discovered not only a kindred spirit in his large Hirogen friend, but someone who would listen to his ideas and even make suggestions.

That was how this little practice session had come about. Uxtar had grabbed the Vulcan and dragged him off to his quarters to celebrate both of their new positions. Stormwind was not a drinker though he could handle it quite well. during this little party he confessed to being worried about his abilities with the HATHOR. His big friend smiled and said "I can fix that."

So here they were.

"Lets try a different tactic. Computer repeat simulation, Three Cardassian GALOR-Class cruisers and electrical interference," Requested the FCO.

The Chief of Operations looked at the back of the half-humans head. "Ensign..."

But Derek was too busy watching his board to respond. The GALOR-class ships were on a standard patrol.

The Sec/Tac Officer did not even know what his friend had in mind, so he went along. "Shields up Cloak is active… they are almost within range."

As the CoO watched Stormwind fired 3 Torpedos but before he could say anything. The Vulcan changed the view of the screen, by overlaying the HATHOR's Ion trail. He than began to slow the ship to a stop... Yet the Ion trail continued without pause.

"The Cardassians are charging weapons and turning." Uxtar said with a little wonder in his voice. "They appear to be moving on the head of the Ion trail."

The facially scarred Vulcan made an adjustment. Two new Ion trails began to separate from the first. One made a standard turn to port and one to starboard. Based on the visual evidence of Ion trails there were now 3 cloaked vessels all on different courses. Before the Cardassian vessels could react Derek sent a signal and all three torpedoes increased to maximum speed. At first it did not look as if had worked, but than...

"I don't believe it... they are chasing the torpedoes... they are splitting up." The Hirogen looked at his with curiosity.

Ensign Kea watched the simulation pan out, till they were officially in the clear. "Ensign Stormwind explain yourself."

"Sir... I wasn't sure it would work I had to see."

"Ok what did we just see?"

"I used the torpedos as decoys by slowing to a stop they gave the impression we were farther than we were, and the others just added to the confusion. Its a tactic from the early EARTH wars."

"I see... but our torpedoes are not designed to do what you had them do."

"Yes sir I know... I did not use the HATHOR's weapons , I used the ones from the DRAGONSEYE, they are older out of date types. Starfleet would not authorize anything newer for a prototype ship with unknown abilities and untested."

"But this was only a simulation my friend... how do you know it will work in real space?" The large hunter asked.

"I don't for sure, but the theory has been proved. I'm sure they can be modified to do what I did in the simulation," Derek said to his friend. Turning to his CoO he continued, "Sir I know I'm new to the crew, and this mission is very important to everyone aboard. I only want to do whatever I can to help." The Vulcan didn't mention he felt a need to prove himself to the red haired Captain of the ANUBIS. He knew his career was in her hands and he was already in her sights.

Carft looked at the half-human and remembered that he too was once new to a ship. Still this needed some thought.

"I must say you have a way of showing things… but next time it might be better if you make your suggestions by way of the chain of command. I shall take your plan and suggestion under advisement. During your off time I suggest that you verify that what you showed me will work. We may need every trick we can think of before this mission is over."

Uxtar smiled at his friend for he knew the turmoil he was in. Derek nodded to the CoO his understanding.

"Now lets call it a night gentleman," Kea left the bridge.

The large hunter smiled what to Derek's human half could only be considered an evil grin.

"Now my friend, we shall see who is the better drinker."

Together they left the bridge each with his own thoughts of friendship.
