Setting: USS HATHOR, Bridge
Stardate: 60342.0500

The USS HATHOR's executive officer sat at the engineering station keeping his eye on the repaired systems since their last run in with the Imperian probe. David owed a lot to Elan with the last stop and the engineering department of the ANUBIS.

**Harumph** David thought with a chuckle. His friend and mentor was stomping around in his domain onboard the ANUBIS. But it was clear to him that the engineering deck no longer fell under the jurisdiction of the XO but to the Oltharian giant. As the DEFIANT-X class ship raced to its destination, David's mind wondered to many subjects at once as he eyes the senior staff.

His friend first... Serenna, who's ass had been planted in the command chair for God knows how long. Was there a course taught at the Academy that said ship COs could never leave the bridge? But as her eyes met his, he knew she was meant for that chair. She had almost the same swagger that Commodore Simmons had... and Captain Rikar.

Eyes drifting to Serenna's left Uxtar was seated at tactical. The Hirogen security chief was an excellent addition to the crew. His hard work and his attention to detail made David's job as XO easier during the attacks from the IMPs.

Next to him, Counselor Mei... who was late. David made a mental note to talk to the HATHOR's counselor about her timeliness... and Ensign Stormwind. An egnima to himself, David's thoughts about the Vulcan FCO was still out. Sure he had proven his worth since joining the crew but there was a lot the XO/CEO didn't know about the man.

Looking next to him, Ensign Kea was hard at work regulating power from unaffected systems to the cloaking device just in case they needed it. Serenna assured David that right now it wasn't on the top of the priority list, but the CEO/XO wanted it to be there if she ordered so.

Then his eyes met hers.

The CMO had been looking at the XO for a while with curiousity. He could see the sleep in her eyes as the XO stood and crossed the bridge and leaned over to whisper in her ear.

"Getting enough sleep Doctor?"

"Plenty," Lea mumbled as David grinned at her sarcasm and returned to his station. As he sat the CMO stuck her tongue out at him as Susan got her attention. David looked down and saw a power spike in the warp core so he sent a message to his assistant, Lieutenant Yates to keep an eye on it.

Speaking of eyes... David looked into the console ahead of him and noticed that the red ring around his iris was flared up. It didn't so much worry him, it was just odd. Which lead his mind to another bunch of thoughts.

SURIAL III.

Gul Zulot.

His brother's death and vergence served.

The rescue of the MERCURY's crew.

The death of Lieutenant Commander Enaii.

The fallout of her death... the court martial... his death and resurrection. How was it possible?

David shook his head but couldn't shake the thoughts... and the feeling. He had made peace with it somewhat, but he couldn't forget the look on Sabrina's face. Or Talia's for that matter. Ever since the ANUBIS and HATHOR was sent on this mission he could see hope in the emerald green eyes of his former lover and commanding officer. And the promise he made to the fallen ILO.

**Everything's possible... if you believe,** the XO heard his mother's voice in his mind.

"And who needs the pry-bar now?" he heard behind him as he shook his head to clear his thoughts.

"You say something Captain?" David asked swiveling the seat in her direction.

"Yes... I asked if you'd be so kind to contact the ANUBIS for me... but if you're too busy..."

"My pleasure" David nodded as he hailed the ANUBIS.
