Setting: NEW ALEXANDRIA, Section C2, Level 1, Infirmary
One minutes they had been denied access to the Infirmary, the next they
had been dragged to Enaii's side. Lea could not understand what had
happened. Why had the base's medical staff been so adamant about *no
visitors* one moment only to change their minds the next?
The CMO knew that NEW ALEXANDRIA dealt with Intel and therefore a high
level of mystery, but that had been nuts. To hide something from the
Cardassian or the Romulans was understandable. To hide a patient from
those willing and ready to help had just not made any sense.
"Looks like everything is the sae as before," Logan said. The aCMO had
not wasted any time to check on the vital signs of the ILO. Maybe the
Ensign had hoped that something might have changed. Maybe Logan had
just wanted to impress her new *boss*. Either way Lea had found the
working enthusiasm of her new assistant refreshing.
"How is Enaii doing?" Susan asked as she walked into the Infirmary.
The Cns had wanted to check up on the ILO since their return to NEW ALEXANDRIA.
"No change," Lea replied. "All of her vital signs are strong, so much
so that she should be up and dancing on a table."
"Even her autonomous brain activity read as they should," Logan added. "It just looks like the Lassie is sleeping and donnae want tae wake up."
Susan glanced around the room and leaned in closer to her friend. "Where is Ens. Halliwell? I figured that you would have her here with you?"
"Reassigned," the CMO replied with a hint of annoyance. "Commodore
Simmons explained why but I wasn't really listening. Ens. Hogg is my new
aCMO, not that I am complaining. I just have to get used to her accept."
"At least she isn't speaking Cardassian," Susan chuckled.
"Talking of which," Lea said in a whispered voice. "You and she might
want to have a chat. I have not seen any signs of problem, but Logan
might have a few *issues* which need counselling."
"Maybe I should schedule some time for us as well," the Cns said
teasingly. "I am sure that I could find a few *issues* that you have not
mentioned to me as of yet."
Lea had been just about ready to verbally run into her friend when the
doors opened and David walked in. "Good morning ladies," the CEO said
a little too cheerfully. "How is Enaii doing?"
"Sleeping!" Lea replied as loud as she could while keeping her voice to
a whispered strength.
"Maybe I should schedule us for a double session," Susan chuckled
quietly. Although David's greeting had been directed to everyone, the Cns
knew that the CEO had come to see one person. Lea.
"Since she is sleeping," David continued in a much quieter tone. "How
about you and I go somewhere *private*?" He added, his words solely
directed to Lea who found herself unable to reply.
"Go for it," Susan chimed in. "I am sure that Logan can take care of
Enaii. Our ILO is not exactly being a trouble patient."
"Perfect," David cut in not giving Lea the chance to argue. By the
time anyone could realise what had happened, the CEO had taken the CMO by
the arm and taken her out of the Infirmary.
"Is there somethin' going on between the two o them?" Logan asked. The
aCMO had taken her attention away from her patient just long enough to
see Lea being taken out by the tall Engineer.
"Depends on your definition of *somethin'" I guess," Susan replied
trying to match Logan's accent. "I can imagine that you have been busy
with all of these changes. Why don't you go and take some time for
yourself. I'll stay here with Enaii, just in case something happens."
Logan had wanted to argue but the fact was that Enaii's condition had
not given any indication that it would change. The aCMO had done all
that she could up to this point, the rest having been left to the staff
of NEW ALEXANDRIA. Hopefully they would be able to find something that
the medical staff of the ANUBIS had missed.
"Thank ye," Logan said as she glanced at the unconscious woman one last
time before the aCMO exited the room. It had been nice to be back in
Federation surroundings, but the overwhelming Egyptian décor of the base
had seemed a little strange to Logan. At least it gave her something
different to look at and explore.
