| No Way Out 2001: Stephanie Vs. Trish Stratus For a couple of months before this matchup, these two divas were involved in an incredibly heated feud. Trish had become romantically involved with Stephanie's father, Vince McMahon, and Stephanie didn't like that one bit! Stephanie was constantly calling Trish names, insisting that she was the dominant female in the WWE. Trish continued to claim that she was innocent, and that she and Mr. McMahon were just friends. Stephanie was always at the side of her husband Triple H, who was then in a feud with World Champion Kurt Angle. So, not surprisingly, Trish began to manage Kurt Angle. Needless to say, there were endless cat fights between the two women outside of the ring while the men had their match. Finally, it was decided that Trish and Stephanie would go at it in a match at the No Mercy Pay Per View. The match was one that was highly anticipated - fans couldn't wait to see what happened next! Before the match, Mr. McMahon approached William Regal and said that he should know what Mr. McMahon wanted the outcome of the match to be, and that Regal was to take care of it. Regal was confused, not sure who McMahon wanted to win the match. Trish entered the ring first, wearing a mink coat given to her by Vince. Next, an angry Stephanie came out and went straight after her adversary. Trish attempted to escape, but with no luck. The match was on! Regal interfered near the end of the match, first aiding Trish but then changing his mind and taking out Trish so that Stephanie could get the win. This match was definitely a high point in the careers of these two women. A lot of people weren't sure what to expect of the ladies, as neither of them were trained wrestlers. However, the two put on an spectacular show, leaving people on the edge of their seats, watching the two women give it their all. Even today, the match is looked at by many as one of the best diva matches ever. [Screencaps] |
