A sweet, friendly and motherly character of the series. She's even-tempered and does not often lose her temper. She cares deeply about Susumu, her younger brother, who seems to be too independent for her liking. Susumu is a shinobi of the Shinsengumi, and this clearly worries her a great deal, causing her to be sleepless on the nights when he is out gathering information. The relationship between them seems strained, as they have only spoken once to each other so far and even then Ayumu spoke in stern tones to him, lecturing him about life as a shinobi. She is solid, dependable and not in the least bit hotheaded. She also does not speak openly of her relationship with Susumu.
Ayumu is a fantastic cook. This was evident in episode 6, where her super-size meal spurred many to complete in the marathon (especially Sano, Toudou and Nagakura)!
Ayumu is one of the shinobi of the Shinsengumi. Her willpower is unmatched, as shown in the episode where she was tortured but did not once plead for mercy. She sacrificed herself for Susumu, dying in his place, which just goes to show what a loving sister she is, though she instructed Susumu not to regard her as a sister. Everything she did, she did it for her ototo... WIsh I had a sister like her...
She dies about midway through the series, in a very touching episode when Susumu realizes just how much she has sacrificed for him. |
