			Sometimes referred to as the 'Buddha-like' Fukuchou, he is the gentler of the two Fukuchous (obviously) and cares a lot about Tetsu. Though he may seem gentle, don't be fooled. This is a man who dares overrule Hijikata, even on major issues. He is against the idea of giving Tetsu a sword, possibly because he also feels partially responsible for moulding Okita into the hitokiri that he has become. He, Hijikata and Kondou are childhood friends, and he is (obviously) one of the founding members of the Shinsengumi. He was the one to replace Serizawa Kamo(the ex-Fukuchou), who was assassinated by the Shinsengumi in the Ikedaya incident. He is good at accounting and always has an abacus close by, which he uses to scratch his back (?!),  shake at people (Tatsu) when he's in a severe mood, and also to cheat in marathons (go to the Episode 6 Summary!). He should really be given an award for creativity where the soroban is concerned... His relationship with Akesato caused a few serious complications later (I'm not gonna tell you or you'll kill me for spoiling the show for you).
