PURE Episode 8

Toru is embracing Yuka, and he says to her that she must continue her sculpting work, saying that only artists who create will be able to "take flight". He then tells her that even though they'll want to be together, there'll be times when they can't. Yuka says she understands, and that she'll try not to use his mahoo no beru and "ganbatte" on her own. Ooya tells Toru that the article has been withdrawn, thanks to Touyama's intervention (Komiya had gone to him about this). Ooya said that Komiya reminded him to tell Toru to thank Touyama personally. At the restaurant, Machiko and Ryo are feeling a bit awkward around each other after having spent the night together, and she tries to lighten the atmosphere by suggesting a movie but her choice of drama didn't appeal to Ryo, who prefers action flicks. Yuka comes in with a new sculpture to display in the restaurant but Ryo tells her that she shouldn't bring her work here anymore as times have changed and she's now an up-and-coming artist and their small restaurant is not a fitting place for her sculptures. Machiko walks Yuka out, and tells Yuka how she really likes Toru, in a "heart-pounding" way that reminds Yuka of what she feels like around Toru... As she gets up to go, Yuka gives her a candy to give to Ryo, saying he didn't look very "genki", but Machiko gently refuses it, saying he won't need it anymore... The reporter who'd done the article on Toru and Yuka embracing, is unhappy that his article is not being published and goes to see Takako, showing her the report and warning her to beware of Toru. Toru briefs Kuroiwa about what he discovered in his investigations on Touyama, saying that it's not just Ayabe Kensetsu and Touyama that's involved, but there seems to be other parties in the conspiracy, including a company called Kataue Kensetsu. Ooya wants to move Yuka's works to the office from her workshop, and tells Toru to go supervise it, saying no one else will be able to reconcile her to the move. Meanwhile, Takako forbids Yuka from seeing Toru alone, saying that it's only okay if either she or Ryo is present. Yuka's not happy about it, but she tells her mom that Toru had also told her how there'll be times when they want to be together and can't (which surprises her mom)... Asako goes to Toru to bug him about the article, saying that Toru won't be able to hold onto Yuka. Toru wonders why she's always caught up in such "petty" things, and she says what's petty to him may be very important to "us women"... and he makes a dig at her about whether "women" in general uses sex for advancement, but then she uses the opportunity to ask him if Yuka would understand such matters as sex. Toru's in Yuka's workshop supervising the move, and she's plainly not happy about it but trying to be a good sport. When she remembers the one remaining sculpture in Ryo's restaurant, she offers to get it, but Toru says he'll do it, saying it's his job. Yuka's still angry at Takako, and so when she comes in to see how things are going, she moves behind Toru and won't look at her. Toru goes to a café to have a private talk with Takako, and she tells him about how she'd forbidden Yuka to see him privately. Takako tries to test his feelings towards Yuka, to see if he's sincere or if he's doing everything for her out of pity. He tells her that he has never felt pity for Yuka. Just when she wants to ask him what his real feelings towards Yuka are, his pager goes off and she stops her probing. But she asks him to give her his pager in case of emergency. When Toru goes to get Yuka's sculpture from the restaurant, Ryo gets somewhat nostalgic, saying that it had been Yuka's first step and at the time, they hadn't had any expectations of fame or anything, but just wanted some public appreciation and recognition of her work. He tells Toru that he doesn't trust him like Yuka does, but nonetheless asks him to help Yuka publish a very special photo-book, because her work is her most treasured possession... Yuka's playing with the dog, when the older brother (Kotou) comes by and tells him that his brother has been forbidden from coming here and also from associating with her, as their father says she's not a "regular" person. Toru comes by and hears them, from a distance. Kotou says that he doesn't understand his father, and that he will not grow up to be like him, but then Yuka comments that he gives her the same feeling that she gets from her father, and that it's a warm feeling. Touyama's secretary tells him that Kakaue Kensetsu has won the tender and Touyama instructs him to proceed with the arrangements. He also asks him to check up on Toru's background. Yuka goes to the restaurant to look for Ryo but Machiko says that he's out, and that Yuka can't linger because they'll be quite busy soon. At the Move, Ooya comes up with this idea for Yuka to do charity work by visiting an orphanage - for publicity and also to use in the photo-book. Toru is disgusted with such an obvious ploy. Later that evening, Machiko asks Ryo to go for a drink after work, but Ryo gives her a feeble excuse about having a weak stomach and she asks him if he regrets having slept with her, and that she'd only been a substitution for Yuka, whom he's really loves even though they're cousins... Ryo gets pissed off, and tells her to stop linking their sex to Yuka, saying that Yuka's pure and "not that type of girl" (ouch!)... Machiko is hurt, and says that even though he can find a substitute for sex, there's no substitute for Yuka's position in Ryo's heart. As Machiko leaves, and Yuka, who's been waiting outside the restaurant all this time, starts to follow her. Machiko tells Yuka to go away, saying that she's lucky to be so oblivious to things and not have to experience such feelings as jealousy and impulsiveness. Yuka looks at her in confusion, and she says sadly that all Yuka has to do is look "baka" and innocent to get others to like her... and that she wished she could be like that too. Machiko's still being followed by Yuka as she's walking along the streets, and suddenly a guy approaches to chat her up, and she accepts his proposal and goes back to his place. On their way there, they pass by a group of high school students and Kotou is among them and sees Yuka following two people... Yuka's follows them into the apartment building and when they go inside to his flat, she waits outside the door (worrying, and remembering what Takako had told her about single girls not going into bachelor apartments). Meanwhile, Ryo is drinking heavily in a bar and becomes embroiled in a nasty fight, and gets himself arrested by the police. Asako tells Toru that Kuroiwa wants to meet him in a pub but when he's there, he finds that it's Asako who actually wants to see him. She is telling Toru that Kuroiwa is actually her uncle, and is about to proposition him (she's got a hotel key in her hand) when his pager goes off and it's Takako who's worried that Yuka is out so late. Machiko is lured into the guy's room on the pretext of watching videos but the bedroom is actually fitted with hidden videocameras everywhere. As Yuka's waiting outside the door, another guy - it's the reporter - drops by (a friend of the guy in the flat) and seeing Yuka outside, invites her in. She follows him in, but accidentally drops one of her genki candies outside the door... End of Episode 8 |
