Toru takes Yuka back to his home and while she's changing out of her wet clothes, he calls Takako to let her know where Yuka is. When Ryo learns that Yuka's at Toru, he rushes to go out and get her, but Takako warns him to "be nice" as Toru has actually done them a favour. At Toru's, Yuka's telling Toru about the dog, and how her mom won't let her keep him because she says that he'll easily leave them to go to heaven, and it's enough to just have papa there. Toru says that she should decide on her own matters and then tell her mother, and such as their exhibition proposal. Ryo arrives and tells Toru not to take Yuka back to his place again, saying that they don't intend on accepting the Move's proposal. But Yuka cuts in, and tells Ryo not to make decisions for her... At home, Yuka tells her mom and Ryo about her decision to accept the Move's exhibition proposal and Takako wonders if it's Toru who's telling her to do this, but she says that she made up her own mind. Takako is happy to see her being so assertive, and Ryo, after some initial objections, also decides to support Yuka in her decision. Meanwhile Toru makes up his own mind to accept Kuroiwa's assignment. At the Move, they've established a formal steering committee for Yuka's project, and they're holding their first meeting. Komiya is to be the exhibition's project advisor while Ooya will take charge of the photo-book part. Ryo tries to object when he finds out that the theme for Yuka's exhibition launch will be "love", saying that she doesn't have experience in working on such a theme, but he is vetoed by Komiya, who tells him that he's here to support Yuka, not to raise objections. As they leave, Yuka gives Asako the clothes she borrowed from Toru the other night to return to him, little knowing the suspicions she's raised in the other woman's mind... Yuka remakes the doghouse, putting a proper roof on top for shelter. As she's admiring her work, she suddenly realises that she should be working on the Move's project. She looks at the tight schedule that Ryo's laid out for her in accordance to the Move's instructions: design plan by the first of the month, and product completion by the 15th... At the restaurant, they're wondering whether Yuka will be able to understand about "Love", but Ryo says that having grown up under the love of her mom and himself, she must know about it, and even if she doesn't, she can always go ask him, like she's always done... (but then he remembers about the time Yuka said that she too kept secrets from him...) Yuka's alone in her workshop, contemplating about the meaning of "love". She asks her father what it is, and "senses" his answer, which is that you must first be able to feel (give?) it to know. As she's having this transcendental conversation with her father, she feels the presence of Toru's father... she then wonders how come it's not just her dad, according to her mom, is the only one there. Toru's tailing the illicit meeting between the construction company and the Works Bureau official. Another man joins them, and is given a document to take to the "legislator"... Toru wonders who the legislator is, and follows the guy out. Yuka at plyaing with the dog, when Ryutai-kun (the little boy) comes by, and she asks him about the meaning of "love". He decides to take her back to his house to check the dictionary, but when they're in front of his house, his elder brother comes by. Finding Yuka a bit strange, he tells her not to bother his younger brother, and the two boys go inside. After Yuka wanders off, the man from the meeting comes by the same house, and goes inside. Toru comes by and sees the name plate of the house: it's Touyama. At the Move, Ooya tells Toru to make a push on the Oriharas to get them to confirm about the book project, saying that all the preparation including the invitations for the launch has been done, and they can't back out now. As Toru goes off, Ooya calls Asako over and tells her to locate an artist for his "contingency plan"... Yuka goes to Ryo to ask her question about love, and he explains that it is the feeling of really liking something, like the way she likes trees and flowers and stuff... she's satisfied, but then stumps him with another question about what love looks like... Meanwhile, Toru's at the doghouse and seeing the roof that Yuka had added for the dog, takes photos of it, telling the dog he's lucky that someone cares enough to provide him with shelter... Ryo goes into the back room to ponder on the question, and Machiko tries to explain to Yuka, telling her about "koi", romantic love, as being one form of "ai" (love), which is when you really want to be with that person and to see them, but when you're with them, your heart will beat very fast ("dokidoki"). Yuka is reminded of the time she'd "ubi-kiri'd" with Toru in the café... Toru goes to see Takako about the book-project, but she's still undecided, saying that she's glad Yuka wants to decide for herself but she's worried that Yuka may not be up to doing it. He suggests that she decide. He mentions what she'd told Yuka about "papa being the only one in heaven", suggesting that she tell him the truth but she resists, saying Yuka won't be able to take it... but he is sceptical of her words. Toru is checking up on the legislator, Touyama's background, and he sees that at one time, he used to be the principal secretary of legislator called Kaneko... he pulls out old newspaper clippings of a story about Kaneko's fourth secretary committing suicide after a bribery scandal (involving the leaking of confidential info for monetary gain) was uncovered. The fourth secretary is Toru's father! The article goes on to quote Kaneko's first secretary (Touyama) absolving himself and Kaneko of any blame, saying that Toru's father had done it on his own. Yuka asks her mom what form love takes ("ai no katachi"), and Takako puts her arms around Yuka, saying that it is what she feels towards Yuka... Yuka says the feeling is very warm ("atatakai"). Asako gives Toru some documents from Kuroiwa, and he makes some sarcastic comment about her still being with Kuroiwa, and she taunts him saying "jealous"... but he doesn't seem to care, saying that it's nothing to him if she wants to use her body for advancement. She retorts that in today's world, Yuka's innocent approach doesn't work, and gives him a design layout to give to Yuka, saying that if she can't come up with her own creation in time for the launch, she will have to follow this one. He's disgusted by the suggestion, and walks away. Asako then takes the design to Yuka herself. Machiko is telling Ryo about her explaining "koi" to Yuka but he thinks it's too much for her to grasp. She replies that Yuka appears to be in love with Toru, and Ryo's vehement rejection of the idea, prompts her to say that she realises he's protective of her like an elder brother... and he cuts in "*not* like an elder brother..." before leaving. Takako finds Asako's design plan when she comes home that night and shows it to Toru. Both are offended by the Move's suggestion, and Ryo gets really worked up and goes off to the Move to have it out with Toru. Yuka comes home and Asako tells her about Ryo going to the Move, and saying that Yuka doesn't have to do it if she feels too pressured, but Yuka's decided to do her best for it, and goes after him... At the Move, Ooya is showing this really ugly sculpture they've had made for the launch party in accordance with the design plan, in case Yuka doesn't come up to scratch. Ryo shows up and seeing the sculpture, is really put off by how underhanded they are, putting the blame on Toru. Yuka then appears and tells them that she isn't going to give up. But then she sees the sculpture, and looks at it wonderingly, turning to Toru to ask if that is the form that love takes... After she leaves, Toru murmurs to himself that "love has no form..." and tells Ooya that he doesn't want to be involved in Yuka's project anymore... - End of Episode Five - |
