PURE Episode 7

Komiya introduces Touyama to Yuka as the legislator... and the chair of your steering committee, but Touyama cuts in and says that he hasn't actually decided to accept it yet. (Toru manages to slip away while they're talking.) Ryutai-kun sees his father and comes running up to them. Touyama is naturally surprised to see him there but he tells his father that he is good friends with Yuka. After the party is over, Yuka wants to take her sculpture home, but Toru says she can't, as it'll have to remain there until her photo-book is finished. She agrees reluctantly... and he says to her that "it's Orihara Yuka's most important work, and he will take good care of it for her..." She looks at him, and her heart starts beating really fast. Ryo's in the streets by himself, thinking about Yuka and then thinks back on what Machiko had said to him... and how she told him not to mind her, that she's fine with it being one-sided love, and it makes her feel better just to have let it out. As Toru's covering the sculpture in bubble-wrap, Asako comes up and asks him if the sculpture's about him, and if Yuka's the reason they haven't "got together" recently. She starts to say how it's not possible for him and Yuka as they're from different worlds - but stops abruptly when he marches angrily up to her, but then he just passes her the masking tape, and leaves. Asako looks back at the sculpture and wonders to herself if it's Yuka's message of love. Yuka is talking to her father in the studio, telling him how happy she is, and how Toru's been smiling at her all day. She thinks back on that moment when her heart starts to beat strangely... The next day, Yuka goes to the Move but he's not there and Asako tells her very meanly not to come by like that unless it's something important because this is an office and they have serious work to do. Yuka seems to be unaware of her rebuke, and offers her a candy but Asako tells her that she hates candy and things that are sweet. Yuka then goes to look for Ryo but he's not in the restaurant and Machiko tells her that she can't stick around because she'll be in the way as they'll be busy. Yuka again doesn't take offense, and just comments that "work must be very hard". As she leaves, Machiko comments softly that it must be nice to be Yuka, not minding anything and doing whatever she wants. Yuka looks at Machiko and says that she doesn't look well. She reaches in her pocket for her genki candy, hesitates as she remembers Asako's words, but decides to offer it anyway. Machiko takes it, thanking her, and Yuka's relieved that she likes candy. Yuka's still wandering around in the streets later on that evening, and runs into Toru near his house, and he takes up her to his flat. Yuka is in Toru's flat, contentedly sipping her drink. He wonders why she's there and asks her if she has something to ask him. She shakes her head, saying she just wanted to see him, but then remembers that she has a question about work. She asks him what her work is, and he tells her that it's to create those heart-moving sculptures of hers. She's happy and gets up to go but accidentally spills her drink. (The look on her face is so comical!) Outside, she looks up and comments on how beautiful the stars are and how lucky for her dad - and also Toru's parents - to be so close to the stars. She then makes a comment about how Touyama has the same scent ("nioi") as her own father... when a motocycle comes tearing around the corner and Toru grabs her out of danger's way. They freeze for a moment, as he's standing there still holding onto her, but then he lets go abruptly and walks off. One of the reporters from another magazine is there, spying on them and he takes some shots of Yuka in Toru's arms, saying that it'll be newsworthy. Ryo gets a call from Takako at work, who says that she hasn't seen him around their house lately and asks him to come over after work today because she has something she wants to discuss with him. He agrees, but seems reluctant. Yuka leaves her house to go to the Move, but is surprised to find that they've sent a driver round to pick her up. As she gets dropped off, she reaches into her purse for money to pay him (like a taxi) and is surprised that she doesn't have to. The driver tells her that it's part of his work duties - and she says "ah yes, work"... and gives him a genki candy instead! At the Move, Ooya gives Yuka a work schedule to follow, requesting that she stick to the deadlines on there for work submission. Back at the workshop, Yuka seems to be incapable of making anything but wings! She puts her latest one down next to another one that she'd made earlier, and thinks about about Toru's hug and her beating heart, and what Machiko had told her about "koi". When Ryo goes over to her house that night, Takako talks Yuka's feelings for Toru, saying that she had intended to send Yuka to a social care centre after she died because she didn't want Yuka to be on her own... but although Ryo bursts out that she wouldn't be because he'd be there, Takako says that he's got his own life, and she makes a decision to have a talk with Toru. At the workshop, Yuka is showing all her latest "wing" creations to Ryo, saying that she can't seem to make anything else. She suddenly leans against Ryo's chest, but then moves away, telling him that it's not the same, that her heart beats very fast when she's leaning against Toru, but it doesn't with him... Ooya is faxed an advance copy of the article about Toru and Yuka, with a photo of her leaning against him. The article speculates about a possible romance blossoming between the handicapped artist and her new publisher's reporter, and says that the article attacking her which Toru wrote before, could in fact have been a ploy. It then mentions the publishing company's cash-flow problems, and says that they'll want to capitalise on the photo-book that they're publishing for her... Ooya is apopletic after reading the report, and won't listen to Toru's explanation, saying that the issue isn't one about whether it's true or not, but about the power of the media. He tells Toru to stay out of Yuka's affairs, and to stay at home until he's discussed with management over what they'll do. Ryo's boss asks him again about his decision on the Osaka offer, but Ryo asks for more time to consider. After the others leave, Machiko asks Ryo to go out for a drink, and after hesitating, he agrees. Toru goes to see the reporter who wrote the story, asking him to withdraw it, but of course he won't, and he accuses Toru of using Yuka as a means for him to return to his former news bureau. But when Toru replies that he doesn't care about himself, but he doesn't want to see Yuka's future as an artist ruined, he says that it sounds like Toru has really fallen in love... But he refuses to withdraw the article, saying that it's going to get published regardless. Meanwhile, Komiya's at a restaurant with Touyama, saying that the article has been withdrawn. But Touyama reminds her that he still hasn't agreed to chair Yuka's committee and she tells him smoothly that they've already prepared the "gift" (read, bribe) for him. Touyama looks down at the article, and reads out Toru's name thoughtfully "..Sawatari..." Asako's having dinner with Kuroiwa, telling him how Toru suspects them of having an affair. He says "us?" in some amazement (so I guess they're not!) And she comments that although she's seen as a woman with loose morals, the fact is that she's in love with a man "not fated to love". Toru comes home and finds Yuka at his doorstep. She tells him how she's unable to make anything but wings, and he tells her he can't help her; she must do it on her own, and right now, she should not be here, but be at her workshop. In fact, she shouldn't be there at all. Just before he goes in, he tells her that he too is very tired... ("ore mou tsukarette iru...") Ryo's drinking with Machiko, and he tells her how he'd discovered cooking in high school and how he used to cook for Yuka, and how she loved to eat back then... but that even then, he had thought that she would do fine without him, and now it's finally over, and she doesn't need her cousin by her side anymore... Tears start to roll down Machiko's face, and she apologizes, saying that it's just that she has very active tear glands and cry easily... She gets up to leave, and Ryo grabs her hand, saying "it's over with Yuka"... and she replies that she doesn't mind being second place to Yuka. They start to kiss... Toru's trying to concentrate on work but his mind keeps drifting to Yuka, and when he realises he's out of cigarettes, he goes out to buy some. He finds Yuka sitting outside on his doorstep in front of his apartment building, and she turns to him, saying "sorry, I'm back again..." He calls her "baka" for being out there on such a cold night... and she tells him that she doesn't know what to do... that everytime she sees her wings, she wants to see him, and the more she wants to see him, the more wings she makes... She says she wants to see him... is that not possible?... is that "baka" of her... He pulls her into his arms and they embrace each other... - End of Episode Seven - |
