Italy,
three times world champions - 1934, 1938 and 1982 - are one of the
best national sides in the world. Play for the azzurri, as they're
known, is an honour for any player born in that country.
Del Piero's debut on the
main squad was in March 25, 1995, when Italy beat Estonia 4-1. Although
he has never really managed to show his real (and undoubted) class for
his country, in seven years he's played many matches, scoring important
goals in several different competitions and friendlies.
So far, he's already worn
the numbers 7, 10, 11, 14, 17, 18 and 20 while playing for his country.
