Wicked Jeep Comanche Page

I bought my Jeep Comanche brand new in 1989. Around 1993, I  installed a 3.5 inch lift and 32 inch tires. The next modification was upgrading to slightly taller gears. Those only lasted about a year before I pulverized them and wasted the rear axle beyond repair. I located a new rear dana 35 and made the switch to a 4:56. gear ratio all around. I added a custom made front grill and brush guard tube rear bumper and custom dual spare tire mounts. This rig really does great on the trails

Later modifications included a spring over axle (S.O.A.) lift for the rear & 1.75 inch poly spacers to level out the front coil springs. Rusty's Offroad of Alabama supplied the poly spacers, rear spring perches, front sway bar disconnects, adjustable trac bar & lower control arms. JKS shock barpin eliminators were used up front.

New S.O.A. lift with 1.75 poly spacers:
Flexing the suspension. Total lift at rear with spring over axle (S.O.A.) is about 6". Total lift at front with poly spacers is about 5.25"

Installation of the 1.75 coil spacers, Lower control arms, sway bar disconnects and spring over axle modifications were fairly easy to complete. Click here for a how-to of the installation as well as details, and before and after pics of the installation. Special thanks go to Rusty's Offroad for all the great advice and excellent  products.

SPECIAL NOTE:     "DEATH WOBBLE"
Lifting Comanches and Cherokees can severly affect the way the vehicle handles. Many people, including me, have experienced severe front end vibrations ("DEATH WOBBLE") when driving over the road. Steering caster must be set correctly and modificatiions to the front steering geometry may be needed to achieve suitable on-road performance.
