STORY OF GOLDEN BAND |
A simple little band of gold She gave to him to have and hold; A token of her love so new, A love untried, but special...true. He wore that golden band with pride And she was thrilled to be his bride. But then some problems came along; He questioned if their love was wrong And so he took that golden band Off the third finger of his hand. He dropped it in a dresser drawer... It held no meaning anymore. As time went by he realized The pain that lingered in her eyes, And though he knew her love was true He had to know his feelings too, And so he kept his finger bare; He left the gold band waiting there Until a day that he'd feel too The meaning that it held anew.. She prayed some day he'd wear again The golden band she gave, and then Their love could once more be complete And in their hearts they'd both repeat The vows that made them truly one. A fresh new start could be begun If once again that golden band Could be worn proudly on his hand. One day she looked into the drawer. The golden band was there no more, And through her glist'ning eyes she saw His left hand no more had a flaw, For on his finger late that night She saw the gold band shining bright. Her prayers were answered...love had won. A tender chapter had begun. A simple little band of gold Said, "Darling, I will have and hold You through the years, for all my life. I'm proud to have you for my wife." Copyright by Barbara A. Duits 1999 |
