VICTORY |
Despair came...Crashing all around Like a blinding, thunderous storm. I could not see the sunshine Or feel love's soothing warmth. I felt life held no meaning As my torments tossed me 'round And my thoughts were torn and shattered As they all crashed to the ground. I approached the abysmal canyon In the terror of my mind And I thought, "This is my answer!" As the fear and pain combined and grew Like a wild, malignant cancer. As I tried to take that final step To meet eternity, I saw a glimmering spark of hope... Heard a voice saying, "Let life be!" The spark became a blazing torch; The tiny voice a song. The torch lit the way to recovery As the voice commanded, "Go on!" For today is but a moment In the history of time And this life is ever changing... Every season has its prime. So cautiously I tried again To face the vicious world. Each step I took was easier As triumphs came unfurled. In time, without my knowing it, Anxiety crept away. It left a niche for happiness... I saw a brighter day. The problems that had plagued my mind Diminished gradually. I felt at last in this wondrous world I had found a place to be. Then I shouted with glee, "I am free! I am me!" And to loved ones and friends I proclaimed victory! Copyright by Barbara A. Duits |
