Proposed Business Impact Study & Request for Patronage to Study Ethics in Higher Education. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Higher Education and the Enron Calamity Sponsorship Request for Curriculum Development and Implementation Proposal for a study of the underlying educational, social and ethical causes of the Enron catastrophe and other like kind events (Waste Management, Arthur Anderson et al) that demonstrate flagrant disregard for ethical behavior and absolute absence of empathy. The primary focus of this study will be secondary education in the 1980’s and 90’s. In addition a review of liberalized College degree requirements and self directed study programs from 1980 through 2000 will be conducted. Objectives Exploring the corollaries between the elimination of humanities and philosophy courses and the evolution of situational ethics. Technology’s role in desensitizing society. Searching for causes of extended adolescence, which now exist well into adulthood. (Campus behavior at age 35). Compare the general knowledge level of high school graduates from 1960’s through 1980. Compare the general knowledge of college graduates 1980 through 2000. Review the relationship between ethical behavior personal satisfaction. Vulgarity and its relationship to rage and other improper behavior. Informality and its relationship to anti American sentiments abroad. A comparison of liberal arts graduates with business specific graduates to ascertain their overall satisfaction and life fulfillment attitudes. Survey students who participated in creative activities such as art, band, orchestra, drama, choir etc. To see if there is a long-term quality of life differential between these students and those students who took up sports. Examine a relationship between privileged students and cavalier attitudes towards ethics. Examine social class distinctions (not ethnic) and their cause and effects after graduation. Deliverables The overall objective of this study is to develop a preemptive strategy that business can deploy within the existing secondary education infrastructure in conjunction with state and federal agencies. In addition a proposal and white paper template will be developed with specific recommendations and calls to action that are specific to industry and educational segments. The consequences of Americas evolving hostility, vulgarity and lack of ethics is having a very real impact on obvious situations such as Enron as well as the increasingly anti American sentiments in Social and economic global spheres of influence. It is the intention of this study to develop strategies and tactics, which will preclude further denigration of the educational and business cultures, and to preempt further calamitous events based solely on non-business (negative) behavioral characteristics. |
