Phelps to join Team 1

Many HSFL purists have a hard time believing that there would ever be a "Tom Phelps sweepstakes", but after his performance in the preseason, everyone has to recognize Phelps as a legitimate threat, and judging by the dispute over which team he would play for in week 5, it's safe to say that everyone has.  The HSFL announced Wednesday morning that the dispute over which team hall of famer Tom Phelps would play for in week 5 has been resolved.  After several hours of negotiation Tuesday night between Phelps, Team 1 co-captain Bob Glover, and Team 2 co-captain Mike Arana, all three parties agreed on a deal that would send Phelps to Team 1 for week 5.  Arana was recruiting Phelps to play quarterback for Team 2 since Jeff Renn will most likely be out of action this weekend, and Glover wanted Phelps as primarily a wide receiver to help ease the loss of Josh Neace.  Phelps informed the two parties that he would have to either play quarterback for Team 2 with the legalization of the option or he would have to play for Team 1.  Phelps cited reasons such as "lack of pocket presence" as his reinforcement for refusing to play quarterback.  Glover and Arana both agreed that legalizing the option was out of the question as it would force changes in several other traditional rules.  Phelps then threatened to hold out for week 5 if one of his two conditions were not satisfied.  The two teams agreed to send Phelps to Team 1, where due to the injury to co-captain Josh Neace, he will likely stay for the rest of the season.  The two teams are currently ironing out the details of the compensation package that Team 2 will receive for the week 5 game time draft.  All speculation indicates that Team 2 will now go with rookie Kyle Gonzales, who will be making his HSFL debut this week, as their starting quarterback.  More details as they become available.
