The HSFL played the Glover Bowl 2001 on Saturday.  The league saw the return of several former stars, including 2000 rookie of the year Wes Blackwell, hall of famer
Aaron Kratochvil, and Josh Clark.  The game start time was delayed an hour due to rain at the field.

The game started off very slowly, with neither team scoring on its first two possessions.  The scoring finally got underway, and Team 2 got on the board first.  Josh Clark felt light headed, and was forced to sit out with Team 2 ahead 2-1.  Team 1 did not give up, and managed to hang around throughout most of the game.  It looked like Team 1's great season was coming to an end late in the game when Team 2 took a 9-7 lead.  Team 1 managed to get two touchdowns before Team 2 could get one, and Clark returned for the stretch run.  Team 2 committed two costly turnovers down the stretch to cost them the game with Team 1 winning 13-11.

This game was just another day in the spectacular season put together by
Bob Glover.  Glover lead Team 1 to the Glover Bowl title, throwing for 9 touchdowns, running for one, and intercepting a pass.  Matt Lams proved to be one of the league's best after stepping up during the absence of Clark, scoring 5 touchdowns.  Despite missing most of the game, Clark made an impact in his return to the HSFL, scoring 2 touchdowns and intercepting a pass.  Tom Phelps played his best game in weeks, scoring 3 touchdowns, intercepting a pass, and catching several big passes to help Team 1.  John Allendorf played his traditional, intense style, playing great defense and intercepting a pass.  Wes Blackwell scored 3 touchdowns in his return to the HSFL after winning the rookie of the year award in 2000.

Team 2 gave another great showing, but as was the story of their season, they just couldn't put the game away when they had a chance.  Hall of famer Aaron Kratochvil had an impressive return to the HSFL, throwing for 6 touchdowns, and returning an interception for a touchdown.
Kenny Williams played what was by far his best game of the season, scoring 5 touchdowns, including several great, deep catches.  Kyle Gonzales made the best of his last chance to win the rookie of the year, scoring 3 touchdowns, and throwing for 2 more.  Shaun Wehle had a solid showing, scoring 2 touchdowns and playing great defense.  Mike Arana struggled on both sides of the ball.  With all the offensive talent on his team, he was unable to get his normal number of touches, and on defense, Team 2 used a zone for most of the game, restricting his ability to make as many plays as normal.
