Hobart IN;  The HSFL officially began regular season play on Saturday, September 15th at Senior Field at Glover Bowl.  The game was scheduled as first team to 10 touchdowns, must win by two, and a limit of 15 touchdowns.

Team 1 started at a disadvantage from the early moments of the game by turning the ball over on fumbles on each of their first two possession.  Team 2 wasted no time and capitalized on the turnovers to take an early 2-0 lead.  Team 1 made a comeback before the half thanks to a fumble recovery and an interception by
Josh Neace who lateraled to Bob Glover for the score, and went to the break leading 5-4.

Another Team 1 fumble and an onside kick recovery by
Mike Arana put Team 2 in the driver's seat mid way through the second half.  Team 2 used a seemingly unstoppable running attack to score on all but one possession in the second half.  Team 2 reached 10 first leading Team 1 10-9.  Team 1 suffered a major loss when Jake Ehrhardt suffered yet another in his series of concussions late in the second half.  Team 1 managed to score on their first two possessions after the injury, but as they drove down the field trailing 10-9, they suffered the blow that would cost them the game.  Glover pitched the ball to Neace who after breaking one tackle, cut the run back to the other side of the field where Arana was waiting.  Arana bent down to make the play on Neace and as Neace attempted to leap over him, Arana threw his arm in the air to trip Neace up.  Neace flew through the air and landed hard on his hip.  Neace lie on the ground, shaken up for several minutes before he walked off the field on his own power.  Due to the injuries suffered by Neace and Ehrhardt, Team 1 elected to stop the game and forfeit, giving Team 2 the victory in the regular season opener.

Mike Arana scored 6 touchdowns for Team 2 in the win.  Josh Neace scored 4 touchdowns and had 2 interceptions in a losing effort.  Jeff Renn threw for 5 td's, ran for one, and caught one for Team 2.  Bob Glover was involved in all 9 of Team 1's scores  throwing  for 7 td's, running for one, and scoring another on the lateral from Neace.  John Allendorf also scored one touchdown and threw for one in his HSFL debut.
