Week 8 in the HSFL was consistent with the majority of the 2001 season.  Team 1 passed, and passed often, while Team 2 ran, and ran often, and when the smoke cleared, turnovers by Team 2 had cost them another game.

HSFL Senior Official, Phil Mulroe made his presence felt on the field for the first time this season, which allowed for an interesting turn of events to take place.  At game time, Team 1 did not have enough players to begin the game, so the team elected to bring official,
Clyde Neace into the game on their team.  Clyde showed signs of playing defense like his older brother Josh Neace, and even scored the game's first touchdown on a fumble recovery on the first possession.  Josh eventually made his way to the field, and Clyde was sent back to officiating for the remainder of the day.  On Team 2's next possession, Jeff Renn threw an interception to Bob Glover, and Team 1 went on to score that drive, to take an early 2-0 lead.

Team 2 never really got going, and the majority of the second-half was dominated by Team 1.  Team 2's running game was dominant, as always, lead by Renn,
Mike Arana, and adding Jake Ehrhardt this week, they just couldn't seem to capitalize when they had chances.  Team 1's offense was nearly unstoppable, and their defense looked better than it has at any point this season.  Team 1 won the game by a final score of 12-7.

Team 1's offense was lead by Glover, throwing for nine touchdowns, and scrambling for big gains when pressured.  Josh Neace added three touchdowns, and was nothing short of dominant on defense.
Tom Phelps finally showed signs of living up to all of his talking, scoring five touchdowns.  Kyle Gonzales came up big at safety for Team 1, adding another interception.  Jon Wilkins showed signs of great potential as a deap threat in his debut, but may need some more time to get used to the league's style of play.  Team 1 has taken the lead 3-1 in the season series, with time running out in the regular season.

Team 2 played another game in which they did not live up to their potential.  Jeff Renn continued dominating on the ground, but was forced to spend some time at quarterback as well.  Mike Arana split time at quarterback with Renn, lessening his carries as well, but did show signs of returning to his old form on the defensive side of the ball.  Ehrhardt did a tremendous job in his first game since his concussion, he ran the ball well, in addition to playing solid defense.
Brad Harber continued pressuring Glover, causing him to hurry several passes, and did contribute a bit on offense as well.  The presence of Ryan Geib on defense was minimized.  By forcing him to cover Phelps deep, he was taken away from making tackles, and his lack of speed was exposed, but he did begin to make a contribution on offense.
