Preparing to Parade The Tactical Inspection / Competition included the
parade ceremony. This had to be executed with clockwork precision. We can't afford any
errors because it would give us undue demerits that could cause us our victory. So the
rehearsal involved long hours of marching practice under the blazing sun carrying a real
M-14 rifle. The psychological factor was very vital to keeping the unit intact. It also
involved strategic maneuverings of the companies at certain points.
Exhaustion was very evident on the faces of the
Midshipmen, as well as the Officers in the heat of the training. It was a good thing that
our battalion secured a shaded area on the rear driveway of Bonifacio Naval Station (BNS).
That way, the Platoon Leaders can discreetly bring their units under those trees to
practice manual of arms if they feel they are about to collapse from the sun's heat.
Frolics and Joketimes were also iserted in the
training schedule to boost the most important factor: morale.
So when we were called by the overseers to
battalion formation on the BNS Parade Deck, we could execute the entire ceremony
perfectly. We repeated the sequence over and over till it was perfected. And we did! The
soles of our boots were half of it's original thickness by then.
Next: D-Day!
