Naval Orientation There was no time to lose as the training plan required
us to cover all the required knowledge and skills for the inspection. Our opponents had
two years worth of preparation while we had only one because of the trimestral system we
follow. Nevertheless, there was no excuse. The mission still has to be accomplished.
Thus, Operation Ramrod was put into effect. The
first thing we had to do was enhance the physical make up of our personnel. Most of them
came from affluent families and had been used to people doing things for them and treating
them like babies. We made them forget all about that during the training. We all had to do
things ourselves and carry our own weight till we shape up. Commands have to be executed
the moment they were given. We all learned to work within the military structure and abide
by it's norms.
Navy Dozen calisthenic exercises were conducted
and repetitions were gradually increased every training week.
The proper naval protocol, courtesy and
discipline was taught and enforced. We all had to strictly abide by them so the unit would
function smoothly and training would be a breeze.
We finished the school of soldiers without arms
in less than one trimester. This included basic formations and marching drills. It enabled
us to practice Rifle Drills for the next trimester. After that would be the Parade
sequence and the actual competition.
Gradually, the "conyos" in the unit
proudly transformed into men ready to stand tall and look our challengers straight in the
eye and with pride.
Next: Operation
Carbine
