PARADIGM SHIFT is when fundamental perspectives change, as when we switched from the sun going around Earth to vice versa. In transportation the car represented a paradigm shift relative to railroads and the horse. Air travel was obviously a paradigm shift. Today there's paradigm shifts from hierarchial corporations to flat ones, from chain of command to networking, from capital as king to knowledge as king, from planned economies to market economies, and politically from nation states to globalism. If we find life on Mars or elsewhere - now there's a paradigm shift!

Buses do slip a little. From the standpoint of friction that stops a bus there isn't much difference between an empty bus and a full one. A loaded bus pushes down harder on the wheels for more traction mostly cancelling the increased momentum from the load. Also hills, again from a friction standpoint, are not as steep as one might suppose. The very steepest in SF if I remember is about 22% (45 degree slope = 100%). The vast majority are less than 6%. Rain makes streets somewhat slicker, especially if there's an oil/dirt film. In slow city driving it would increase stopping distance by about 30% but that friction loss insn't enough to make the bus start slipping all over the place. Ice is another story.

Physics alone covers the territory. Chemistry falls under the heading of physics, biology falls under the heading of chemistry, thought processes fall under the heading of biology, mathematics falls under the heading of thought. I think. Marilyn Vos Savant

SCIENCE SURVEY (adults) Over 50% didn't know that Earth revolves around the sun. 42% thought early humans lived side by side with dinosaurs.
