I am somewhat
ambivalent about this page and Ben Affleck (this was so much easier
when I was 20!) but I'll leave this here for posterity though I'm
not sure how much if any is still true. :) Pretty much all that's
been updated since about 1998 is the filmography and associated
links.
My favorite actor (right now) is Ben
Affleck. I missed out on the School
Ties boat, so I first saw him in "Against
the Grain", a very short lived TV drama from Fall 1993.
It was about a Texas insurance agent who gave his job to his wife
so he could coach his son's high school football team. Ben played
said coach's wonderful, nice, and extremely good-looking quarterback
son. It was a really great show and Ben's character was pretty much
the perfect (oh, the fantasy that is television) guy. He was smart
but not overbearing, talented but not cocky, and gorgeous but not
arrogant.
My favorite movie of his is Good
Will Hunting. This might seem a little like jumping on the
bandwagon, but it's the truth. I was extremely jazzed when I read
in Newsweek in early 1997
that he and Matt Damon
had written the script and made the movie. All the relationships,
especially the friendship between Will and Chuckie, were strong
and well-crafted. Although, as good as Matt was, I would have loved
to see more Ben.
Armageddon was a fun movie to watch. Not particualrly realistic in regards to the laws of physics and the characters were often less than convincing, but it was an exciting ride. Of course, Ben played his role well (but then doesn't he always?).
While some of Ben's movies haven't been patrticualarly great as a whole, Ben himself has proven to be a fine actor when given the chance. I hope to have a lot more biographical soon. For now, just be content with these links:
