Cinnergy Soap I call this recipe Cinnergy (sorta' a play on using
cinnamon and the 'Energy' fo from Bramble Berry). My whole house is smelling like a
spicy Energy!
Submitted by: Sheila of FaithWorks Soaps
36 oz Crisco
24 oz coconut oil
24 oz olive oil
2 oz palm oil
2 oz shea butter
12.4 oz lye
32 oz distilled water (minus
2 cups)
2 cups aloe vera
juice (fresh)
3 oz Energy fo
(from Bramble Berry)
1 sq. in. silk
(in my case light tan)
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. copper sparkle mica (from
Bramble
Berry)
Combine the lye to the water/aloe vera
juice. Add
the cut silk and let sit. Stir occasionally to
help dissolve the fibers.
Combine the oils of Crisco, coconut, olive, and
palm to melt. My temps for the oils were 100
degrees. When the lye was at at the same temp
and
the silk absorbed, I mixed it in these oils until
trace. Took less than 10 min. with a stick
blender.
At trace, add the shea butter, melted separately
with the cinnamon blended in. Then add the
Energy
fo. Last, add the copper sparkle mica.
Stick
blend once more to make sure it's blended well.
Pour into molds, cover with Saran Wrap, towels,
and unmold in 24 hours.
This makes a beautiful, silky, smooth, firm, bar
that is a very light milk chocolate color that glistens with a subtle sparkle. And
the aroma is so energizing and refreshing! It's a true original, my own concoction. |
Becky's Astringent Pads
Submitted by: Becky of Sweet Valley Ranch Country
Store
3 parts alcohol (Everclear)
1 part witch hazel
1/8 t glycerin
1-3 drops tea tree EO
1 drop peppermint EO
1 vitamin e capsule
Mix the two EO's into the alcohol until
incorporated, add vitamin e capsule and glycerin, again stirring until well mixed. Add
witch hazel. Stir well and pour some in a 2 or 4 ounce jar, add cosmetic pads, push down
to soak up mixture, pour in some more astringent and add more pads. Do this until pads are
almost to top of jar and then top off with the rest of the mixture.
It leaves a nice clean tingly feeling on
your face. Because of the glycerin and vitamin e, the alcohol in the recipe does not dry
out my skin. It feels nice and smooth. |
Elona's Soothing Cucumber
Cream
1 whole cucumber, peeled
1/2 oz. white paraffin
2 oz. sweet almond oil
Puree cucumber, strain through cheesecloth. Melt
wax (micro or double boiler). Slowly add oil, stirring gently. Add strained cucumber and
blend thoroughly. Let cool slowly, stirring occasionally. Sometimes, I do add Vitamin E,
because it is so good for your skin, but that's a personal prefrence. I had a friend
who burned herself on the stove one day, and I added aloe vera to it as well. I
didn't personally try it, but she said it was wonderful.
When completely cool, store in labeled, tightly
capped glass container in fridge for up to 60 days. |
Tips
Cleaning Beeswax
Rinse the empty honeycomb in cold running water.
Place it into a pan with 2 cups of water (so it won't catch fire) Gently heat the comb
until it is melted, and continue cooking for an hour. Pour the liquid wax into a
cheesecloth over a tub of cold water, and press the wax through the cloth to remove any
impurities. |
Understanding Oil Sap
Values
By Judy Ann Carpenter
Sap value is the amount of lye to saponify 1 oz. of
a particular fat. If the sap value of a fat were say .325, then it would take .325
oz of lye to saponify 1 oz. of that fat. It you're using 16 oz. of that fat,
multiply 16 times .325 and you would get 5.2 [oz. of lye to saponify 16 oz. of the fat].
And then it would be 'lye heavy', so you either cut back on the lye somewhat (maybe 1/2
oz.), or add some extra oil (maybe an oz.), to superfat the recipe. Since each oil
has a different sap value, and few people have those values committed to memory, most
people find the lye calculators convenient. |
