FANHS 4th Annual Golf Tournament and Family Picnic Wrap-up

Summary of Golf Tournament and Picnic

The 4th Annual FANHS Museum Golf Tournament and Family Picnic, held on May 9, 2009, was a success! We raised almost $8000 for the Museum Fund. Although it wasn’t as much funds as the 2008 golf tournament, it is still an impressive amount in this current economy! We are very appreciative to all our donors and supporters and to all those who participated on May 9th. This year we had two Grand Sponsors – Jackson Rancheria and Rocklin’s Data Center Automation Consultants – without them, we would not have reached our goal and would not have had such a successful event. We thank everyone who made the day so wonderful and we are looking forward to our fifth tournament anniversary! Mel is already looking ahead at other golf courses, including Stockton’s Brookside Country Club. We want to make the fifth anniversary memorable as well as sticking to our budget!

Mark your calendars for May – we’re hoping for the same 2nd Saturday in May – and plan on joining us in 2010!

[Look for photographs in our July 2009 Newsletter – which will be published after the Trustee Meeting in July, to include a report.]

FANHS 3rd Annual Golf Tournament and Family Picnic Wrap-up

May 10, 2008 at Micke Grove Golf Links and Park

Golf Tournament wrap-up – This was our best year ever! Thanks to almost 100 picnickers (including 54 competitive golfers) we had a very successful fundraiser! We cleared over $8500! Our THANKS go out to all our sponsors/donors/advertisers and the volunteers who gave their blood, sweat, and tears to make this a wonderful event! As ever, our tiresome leader (well, he’s probably tired now!) Mel LaGasca, deserves our THANKS for all his hard work to make this event come true. We are another step closer to getting the FANHS Museum built. Thanks to all of you! Photos of the event will be in our July 2008 newsletter.

The 2nd Annual Filipino American National Historical Society's
Invitational Golf Tournament Wrap-up!

Golf Tournament wrap-up – We cleared close to $4000 – we still have postage expenses to factor in. In the summary of income and expenses - listed under the Museum Minutes -- I’ve compared 2006 with 2007. I want to thank all the people who worked on this event -- Debbie Mercado and Joequita Nadal and their crew, who coordinated the volunteers for that day helping with registration, sign set-ups, scoring, etc.; Dave and Vera Rico, also helping with registration, etc., as well as the raffles; Maria Vea, Nena Teves Calica, Moreno Balantac and all the others, who spent the entire day out there in the hot sun! Behind the scenes we had Mary Louise Lopez, who did all the raffle baskets, Violet Dutra and myself for all the mailings to sponsors/advertisers and creating the souvenir booklet, and Mel and Gail LaGasca for all the goody bags, the ordering of all the trophies and signs/banners, twisting arms to get more golfers, and everything else! If you have any suggestions for next year’s tournament and want to volunteer your services, please let us know. We will start planning it in September of this year! We’ll have photos of the event in our July 2007 newsletter.

1st Annual FANHS Museum Golf Tournament and Family Picnic Wrap-Up

By Terri Torres

Our (FANHS) first annual Golf Tournament and Family Picnic that was held at Micke Grove Park in Lodi, on May 13, 2006, was a success! There were about 120 attendees, which included 45 golfers, which made it possible for us to raise almost $4000 for the National FANHS Museum. The Teczons barbequed and cooked up the most delicious dishes you could imagine – tri-tip, chicken, ginger beef, sarsiado, sausages, hot dogs, spaghetti, and various salads, as well as rice, and don’t forget the dessert, among them bico, made by Stephanie Teczon – everyone raved about the food, and we had plenty to go around! The golfers were very pleased with Micke Groves’ course and remarked they’d be willing to come back next year. Mel LaGasca, as Chairman of the event, gave out several awards to the golfers – 1st Place, 2nd Place, Longest Drive, Most Honest, etc. We also had several helpers from the Sacramento-Delta chapter and were very grateful for their support of this event, and the attendees did include people from other area FANHS chapters – so, we were very happy to see them. The souvenir booklet had over 35 advertisers and donors, and several photographs from our chapter archives. We had exhibit boards displaying our local history as well as photographs from the Filipino Federation of old golf tournaments from years gone past. The Edison High School Kilusan dancers performed for us and Frank LaGasca was our wonderful DJ for the picnic. We had over a dozen raffle prize baskets prepared by Mary Louise Lopez, which contained several items donated by various people and companies. We were really pleased with the turnout and are looking forward to next year’s event. Some suggestions for next year include a different course (golfers like to try out different courses), charging one price for early registration and a higher price for “at the door”, more support from the other FANHS chapters, and more volunteers to help on the committee as well as on the day of the event. The committee worked for months on this event and deserves humongous pats on the back for a job well done! We raised $4000!!! Great job to everyone!

December 1998

Our city of Stockton has been chosen as the future site for the Filipino American National Historical Museum by the FANHS Board of Trustees at the 1994 Conference held in San Francisco. This museum will house the many items of historical memorabilia that has been gathered by each chapter as well as other items donated from private citizens.

As you know, in order to build this museum, funds are needed. At the present time, thanks to the Executive Committee of the former Halua Ohan Mau Loa Hula Dance Group's donation of $1,500.00 on April 12, 1994, stipulating that a separate savings account be opened just for the museum, the late Cecil Bonzo bequest of $2,000.00, and other private donations, the museum fund is currently at $3,580.00.

This museum will reflect the many contributions that Filipino Americans have made throughout the United States. What we need is the manpower and the funds to make this dream come true.
