RAH!

A Risus American Hero!

The G.I. Joe / Action Force campaign for Risus, the Anything RPG

Rules

The RAH! A Risus American Hero! campaign setting uses the rules outlined in Risus, the Anything RPG as the baseline. There are, however, a few minor deviations from regular Risus rules, and these are explained here below.

Filecards: Like the "Tales" rule variant, the completion of a Filecard grants one free die to the character. Unlike "Tales," Filecards are required for every G.I. Joe and Cobra affiliate. Characters not explictly affiliated with either group (Dr. Venom, Kwinn, the Red October team, etc.) are not required to complete a Filecard, but may do so at GM's discretion.

The "Joe" Cliche: Every member of the G.I. Joe team must take "Joe" as a cliche. This cliche represents some combination of the character's rank, position in the chain of command, leadership, ability to mobilize resources, and potential to get away with violating the rules.

Brand-new recruits, one-shot wonders, and low men on the totem pole have one die. (New characters created by the players will ordinarily be new recruits to the Joe team, and as such should start play with one and only one die in this cliche.) Recurring characters have two dice. A character with three dice is the type to be chosen to lead a small team of other Joes. With four dice, a character might coordinate the efforts of several small teams. A character with five dice can do nearly anything he or she wants, even creating their own permanent sub-organizations within G.I. Joe (ex: Ninja Force, etc.). Six dice means you are the commanding officer of the Joe team (ex: General Hawk, or his eventual replacement).

In G.I. Joe's latest incarnation (the comic books now published by Image / Devil's Due), there are soldiers affiliated with G.I. Joe who are not members of the Joe team. These are called Greenshirts. "Greenshirt" is its own cliche. Greenshirts do not take the "Joe" cliche. Commanding Greenshirts is one of the abilities of the Joe cliche.

The "Cobra" Cliche: See the above discussion of the "Joe" cliche. Cobra has many more low-level flunkies, and many more types of flunkies, than G.I. Joe. But Cobra soldiers and officers, Crimson Guardsmen, Vipers, Strato-Vipers, Ice Vipers, etc., should all be dealt with in the same way as Greenshirts.
