| Colour of Chocobo and Description Yellow This is the basic chocobo available at the start. It can travel over snow and grass only. It can't travel over mountains, brown patches, water etc. It's just a quicker method of travel early on in the game. Basically it's not very good, my friend. Green This is second up from the yellow chocobo and can travel in the shallow waters (like the little bronco), but that's about it. Blue Blue chocobos can travel over shallow water, rivers and brown areas. Black Black chocobo's can go anywhere the blue and green can, except it can travel over mountains (but not deep water). Golden The ultimate chocobo can travel absolutely anywhere on the world map; up mountains, over rivers. You name it. Pass over the ocean and get Knights of the Round in the far north-east corner. Well, this is the way that I got a Golden Chocobo and, damn it, it took ages. I have a feeling that many people will find that they got the awesome chocobo slightly differently due to random breeding etc. If you have any comments on my method and how you got one, please, please mail me. And just to prove the breeding process is so varied, Vincent Merkin sent me this mail: You know the chocobo sage? Well, he gives you info on breeding piece by piece. I found out that Chole (The girl Chocobilly in the stables) is the key to this. Just talk to her and she'll write down everything the sage told to you so far. You can then go back to the sage (unfortunately you need to wait a bit so 'back to the Gelnika plane' it is :) and ask him for more info. Repeat this procedure (talk to sage-talk to Chole) while you're capturing the yellow chocobos). Sooner or later the sage will spill some vital info which'll enable you to breed new species. For example, once the sage mentions that you need to catch the good and great chocobos from Mideel, only then you're able to breed green and blue chocobos. Once the sage mentions that there exist 'wonderful chocobos' you'll be able to catch one in order to breed the golden chocobo. That's how it works (and I'm positive that this is right, because I spent aeons trying to find the wonderful chocobo in the Northern continent (I think I caught about 20-30 non-recommendable chocobos first (in steps of four), but when the sage mentioned the word 'wonderful', suddenly I captured 3 wonderful chocobos in one go! Now that can't be luck allovasudden :). The way to get a black chocobo is all right, though, since it doesn't require you capturing anything. Before you begin Chocobo breeding is a totally separate part of Final Fantasy, and to do it you need lots of gil. Make sure you have these things: Check List: The Highwind (In case your early on in the game) About 300,000 gil + As many Stable sections at the Chocobo Farm as you can afford. Some nuts to breed them with. Some greens. Chocobo Lure (High level preferable). Patience :). Once you've got these things your ready to start your Chocobo Breeding. To rent out the stables go to the Chocobo Farm and go into the old cottage and ask the man, when he speaks to you, to look after your Chocobo's for 10,000 gil, then you'll have a section of the stable where Chocobo Billy is. Keep doing this until you think you've got enough (Get Six anyway). The Greens Buy some greens from the Chocobo Sage in the Northern Continent ( if you don't know where all these places are, just look at the World Map). Get the greens that cost 5000 gil from the Sage. The Sage also tells you something but then keeps forgetting. Don't worry about that. I suppose that's all you need to buy for the moment. The Nuts You need nuts to breed Chocobo's, but the ones available through Choco Billy and the Sage are no good. To get the nuts you need, go to the islands just below the Northern Continent to get the Carob nut (you fight a red dragon, with quite a high HP, and get them when you win) and go to the Goblin Island in the far East to fight the Goblins for the Zeio nut. Again, if you don't know these locations, go to the World Map. Catching the Yellow Chocobo's To successfully breed Chocobo's you need to able to buy stables from the Chocobo farm otherwise after you catch the Chocobo it'll just run away without leaving you with the option of sending it back to the stable. Once you have got some stables, equip a preferably high level Chocobo Lure materia to one of your characters and go to the tracks near the Gold Saucer. Move around and you'll go into a battle where the Chocobo will hopefully be. Fight off the others, but not the Chocobo, quickly (or you can throw him some greens to keep him occupied). Now you've caught a male chocobo, and you'll be able to send it back to the stable. Go to the stable yourself and meet Choco Billy and ask him to move the Chocobo you've just caught into the stable from the paddock outside. Give it a male name but make sure its not got its head drooped. If it has got its head drooped, try again in catching the male chocobo. To get the female chocobo, go to the tracks near Mideel (on the island where Cloud recovers in small hut village) and use the same method as you used to catch the male Chocobo. Make sure it's a female, and not got its head drooped, otherwise, try again. Catching the Green Chocobo You've now got the two yellow chocobo's of the opposite sex, you need to breed a green chocobo. It's advisable to save your game now as the breeding is somewhat random. Now go to the Chocobo Farm and meet Choco Billy. Ask him to breed your chocobos, choose the female and male yellow chocobo's you caught earlier and breed them with the Carob Nut. Now cross your fingers... If you don't get a green Chocobo then keep trying. Note: It could be a blue in some cases, I got one on the second attempt after a yellow was born, and if it doesn't work after that then make sure you've got the right yellow Chocobo's. If you do, save your game. Breeding the Blue Chocobo To get the Blue Chocobo, just wait for the two yellow Chocobo's that you used to breed a green Chocobo, to recover from the experiences of birth. (it takes quite a long time so go to the Battle Square and get the Omnislash or something). After you've waited a sufficient time, then breed them again with the carob nut using the same method you used to breed a Green one. Again, I got a blue Chocobo after breeding for the second time; you must be patient. Make sure that the Green Chocobo and the Blue one you've just breed are of the opposite gender, otherwise you can't breed a Black Chocobo. If they aren't of the opposite gender, then load from earlier and try again. If everything is ok, save your game. Breeding the Black Chocobo To get a Black Chocobo, you've got to feed your Green and Blue Chocobo's with 10 5000 gil greens and race them at the Chocobo Square at the Gold Saucer. Feeding them Greens increases their speed, intelligence and stamina. If, after you have feed a green and the speed isn't increased then that Chocobo has reached his highest speed potential. You need to get them into A or S class before you breed them, and when you do, just breed the Blue and Green Chocobo with a Carob Nut and you should get a Black Chocobo. Breeding the Golden Chocobo Right, to get the amazing golden Chocobo you must have your Black Chocobo at the ready with a Zeio nut that you get from Goblin Island. You need a dashing yellow chocobo to breed the black one with, go to the Northern Continent and then to the Chocobo tracks on the west side of the snowy land. (see the map). Make sure that the Yellow Chocobo you've just caught is a awesome Chocobo (dashing) and hasn't got its head down, and also make sure its the opposite gender of the Black Chocobo you've got in the stables. Get the yellow dashing Chocobo and the Black Chocobo into S or A class at the races. Now simply breed the yellow Chocobo with the black chocobo using the Zeio nut and hope for the best. If it doesn't work first time, wait for them to recover and breed them again with a Zeio nut and..... Hurray! Now you've got the Golden Chocobo, you able to get the Knights of the Round! |
