Why Are Chinese Cutting Their Tongues?

Although some might call it mutilation, more and more people in China are willingly seeking tongue operations so they can improve their English pronunciation. Speaking English well is viewed as a way to advance academically and professionally, especially with China's growing internationalism. The British Broadcasting Corp. reports that those who have had the operation--a muscle under the tongue is snipped using a local anesthetic--say their English improves overnight. |
