Blood Memory was a collective creation of The Centre For Indigenous Theatre in the 1995 Summer Theatre Training Program.  In this program, Shandra was a Core Performer, acting, studying and coaching other groups members in voice.  The nine members of this program created Blood Memory together using discoveries made in the training exercises, exploration of characters and a core theme.

Degehmaandizeh, Shandra's character, was a social misfit.  Her name means "She is pitiful" when translated into English.  Isolated and awkward, she watched the villagers and saw both their beauty and their flaws.

Degeh was inspired by the negative reactions of the other characters in the rehearsal and workshop process.  Shandra explored the other characters' reactions and found that when Degehmaandizeh, an openly "negative" character, was present, the other openly "positive" characters would exhibit ugly reactions and would turn on Degeh.  The belief of the other villagers that their behaviour was justified created a rich aspect of human existence for Shandra to explore.

Blood Memory toured to Pine Ridge, South Dakota, the Earth Spirit Festival in Toronto, Collins Bay Men's Correctional Facility and Prison For Women, Ontario First Nations communities and Theatre Passe Muraille.
