FORUM For starters though I'd like to announce that my aim is for every Filipino woman, regardless of economic situation or religion or tribe, to enjoy the benefits of a painless natural childbirth via Lamaze. Posted on: August 27, 2003 Practicality is a consideration for Filipino couples. Last week I posted a message to a forum on "cheap lamaze classes" in momsworld.com.ph. Yesterday, when my seminar and book launch was announced in the Philippine Star, an expectant husband called me and asked about the practical/ financial aspect of Lamaze classes, among other things. Here's the forum query in momsworld.com: cheap lamaze classes? hello everyone.i am due to give birth 1st week og august.this is my 3rd one.would like to try lamaze this time.coz i want my hubby to be with me during labor and delivery.my ob-gyne said her hospital allows lamaze.do i need to take lamaze classes? my friend told me it's 1thousand per session.and it will take 4 sessions to complete it. we are on a tight budget...does any one know where to get affordable lamaze classes? any info would be appreciated.thnks and good day do u know her contact number? thnks :) My reply: TITLE: I am a Lamaze teacher and author MESSAGE: I am a proponent of "Zero-pain" Lamaze. The cheapest way to learn it is by the book. (I know I did!) I also have a book coming out in August, "Lamaze: Kung Paano Dapat Manganak ang Babae" published by Anvil. I wrote this book in Filipino (easy reading, more like Taglish) so that more women can understand Lamaze, because I learned that many misinterpret exercises from American/ English sources--which could be a language thing. Learning by the book is the cheapest way but full of pitfalls. I credit my training as an actress and a dancer for helping me understand deeper the Lamaze concepts such as focus, concentration and stamina building, which led me to my own zero-pain Lamaze births (3 children via Lamaze; I also had a CS, my first). Mastering the breathing techniques could be very easy, but gaining discipline to exercise regularly to build your stamina and make your pelvic bones and muscles flexible, and honing your concentration skills to "zero" the pain, is hard work. Mind work is really needed and can be learned and improved on. For this I recommend Lamaze classes. I also teach Lamaze classes in 5 or 6 sessions, to spread the knowledge and my insights on how to totally eliminate labor pains. The original Lamaze method is 100% painless, it's even the title of the only book by its founder Dr. Fernand Lamaze: "Painless Childbirth." You shouldn't be looking for cheap classes. Aim for quality education above all else, since you and your husband will cherish the experience your whole life. (By the way, I also teach women with no coaches, whatever their reasons may be.) My book will be available at all bookstores or you can call or text me me at 0927-311-0782. See my book website at www.oocities.org/gamaylamaze to learn more. I will be holding a seminar at the Philippine Bookfair in SM Megamall, on Saturday, August 30, 2003, 10:00-11:30. It's not free: my publisher requires a purchase of the book (the price, I think, for the newsprint edition is P195, bookpaper is P495; BUT on that day, they'll be offering 20% OFF (that's 1/5 off, right?) so its around P160 for NP and P400 for BP! Lazy math, sorry... To maximize this seminar, bring a banig fit for two, water with a bendable drinking straw, pen and an empty motebook. Wear comfy clothes for floor exercises. I will also be scheduling other seminars (some, I promise, will be free!) in line with the book's launch in September 2003. You can text me for info. You've probably given birth by now, so congratulations! To those who are interested in Lamaze, I hope you find this very long posting useful. Thanks. (Thanks, momsworld.com!) Gamay Arkoncel-Dacanay |
