I have several hobbies, so I'll use a page for each.
Flintknapping

(The chipping of stones to creat tools and artifacts and weapons.)
and
Primitive weapons
A variety of stones were used to make these tips.
Jasper, Flint, Basalt, and Obsidian.
The four steel tips were made from old barrel bands.
The feathers used here are from wild turkeys and the shafts are willow and cedar. The bindings are elk sinew.
I made this bow in 1983. The wood is Osage Orange from Illinois. It was a long process of aging the wood, splitting the log, and carefully shaving the wood until I had the shape and strength of bow I wanted. This bow is 75#@28". I've hunted with it but never harvested anything with it.
This is not the best of pictures but at least you can see it. This is a 7' bone tipped lance. Below the tip is a horse hair penant. The wrap below the bone point is from the heavy skin on the lower leg of an elk. Below the elk skin is some bead work and the feathers are white turkey died to simulate eagle feathers.  It makes a nice wall hanging.
I have made many other weapons and tools but through the years I have sold them or given them as gifts. I wish now that I had taken more pictures of my work.
