Masters Points System for 2006
As of January 1, 2006, the Greater Columbus Backgammon
Club will report club standings based on ratings calculated as follows:
1) Three
points will be awarded to any player who completes his or her first round
match in a single elimination event, but does not win it. One point will be awarded per match played
to those who lose in straight sets, as in previous years, if there is a
Consolation event.
2) Ten points will be awarded for each match won, whether it was in the Main draw or the Consolation if there is one.
3) Bonuses will be given for first place (winner of the Main) and second place (winner of the Consolation, if there is one; otherwise, to the finalist in the single-elimination bracket) as follows:
# The points for matches won will be multiplied by 2.0 for first place.
# The points for matches won will be multiplied by 1.3 for second place.
Events other than the monthly tournaments will not affect one’s standings. The other events in question may include, but are not limited to, competitions versus other clubs; Internet play; and Jackpot or Knockout events. We also now have a points system specifically for five-player round robins. This format gives people more matches and less down time than a regular draw with only five players, which would give three people first-round byes (or two players an anti-bye, depending on your point of view). It is based on 75 points to be awarded to first and second places. Players who finish their matches but don’t win first or second will get the three “show-up points” they would have had if they’d lost in the first round of a regular event, whether or not they win any matches. Length of matches will default to five pointers, but if the natives get restless (and promise to play fast!) we can be talked into making it seven pointers instead. If there is a single winner who goes 4 and 0, they get 51 master points. This leaves 24 points for second place; 24 to a clear second, 12 and 12 to a two-way tie, and 8-8-8 to a three-way tie. If there is a single winner who goes 3 and 1, they get 45 master points. The remaining 30 points all go to a clear second place; 15 and 15 to a two-way tie; and 10-10-10 to a three-way tie. This last outcome is what we had in the March 12, 2006 round robin. If there are two players who go 3 and 1, who is first and who is second will be determined by the match they played. The winner of that match receives 40 points and first place; the loser of it receives 35 points and second. If everyone goes 2 and 2, we will split up the 75 points “in the system” with 15 to each player. As of the August 2006 tournament we now have a points system for four-player round robins. The system is based on 60 points “in the system.” I’ll write more details when I have time to write it up. See you at our next tourney! J |

- Club statistics for the club’s early years are kept in a spreadsheet
format. This
spreadsheet contains the results for 2004. Other spreadsheets are
available for 2003, 2002 and 2001.
For each year, one page is a summary of finishes for the tournaments, one is
for Master Points. There are also individual pages for each player in
2002 and 2003. Any questions can be sent to the tournament director. |
