Keyboard Troubleshooting Keyboards are very basic devices. And easy to troubleshoot. If you have a keyboard that's not working, first check your connection and make sure the connector pins are not bent. Plug it in and turn on your pc. If your keyboard is still not working, if you have a keyboard you know works available plug it in and see if you have a problem with the one you know works. If it works fine on your pc. The chances are very high that your keyboard is defective are damaged in some way. If the second keyboard doesn't work you may have a malfunctioning keyboard controller or your keyboard port could be shorted out. Some keys on the keyboard are not working or they have to be press hard and more than once for them to type. This problem is usually caused by dirt and dust getting into the keyboard. Unplug your keyboard and turn it upside down and vigorously shake it, you will see dirt and dust falling from the keyboard. After you have finished shaking the keyboard plug it back in and turn you pc back on. If there is no damage to the keyboard if should work like it did when you purchased it.
